¶ Why standest¹ thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest² thou thyself in times of trouble?

The wicked³ in his pride doth persecute the poor: let⁴ them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

For the wicked boasteth⁵ of his heart's⁶ desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom⁷ the LORD abhorreth⁸.

The wicked, through the pride⁹ of his countenance, will not¹⁰ seek after God:¹¹ God is not in all his thoughts¹².

His¹³ ways are always grievous; thy judgments¹⁴ are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth¹⁵ at them.

He hath said¹⁶ in his heart, I shall not¹⁷ be moved: for I shall never¹⁸ be in adversity.

His mouth is full¹⁹ of cursing and deceit²⁰ and fraud: under²¹ his tongue is mischief²² and vanity²³.

He sitteth²⁴ in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes²⁵ are privily set²⁶ against the poor.

He lieth²⁷ in wait secretly²⁸ as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch²⁹ the poor: he doth catch the poor, when³⁰ he draweth him into his net.

¶ He croucheth³¹, and humbleth³² himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones³³.

He hath said³⁴ in his heart, God³⁵ hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

¶ Arise³⁶, O LORD; O God, lift³⁷ up thine hand: forget³⁸ not the humble³⁹.

Wherefore doth the wicked contemn⁴⁰ God? he hath said in his heart, Thou⁴¹ wilt not require it.

Thou hast⁴² seen it; for thou⁴³ beholdest mischief and spite, to requite⁴⁴ it with thy hand: the poor⁴⁵ committeth⁴⁶ himself unto thee; thou art the helper⁴⁷ of the fatherless.

Break⁴⁸ thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek⁴⁹ out his wickedness till thou find none.

The LORD⁵⁰ is King for ever and ever: the heathen⁵¹ are perished out of his land.

LORD⁵², thou hast heard the desire of the humble⁵³: thou wilt prepare⁵⁴ their heart, thou wilt cause⁵⁵ thine ear to hear:

To judge⁵⁶ the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man⁵⁷ of the earth may no more oppress⁵⁸.
