M'r 15:1 | Jesus brought bound, and accused before Pilate. |
M'r 15:1 LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | ¶ And straightway1 in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered2 him to Pilate. |
M'r 15:2 PILATE, PONTIUS | 3And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it. |
M'r 15:3 SILENCE-SPEECH | And the chief4 priests accused him of many things: but5 he answered nothing. |
M'r 15:4 | And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest6 thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee. |
M'r 15:5 | But Jesus7 yet answered nothing; so that Pilate8 marvelled. |
M'r 15:6 | Upon the clamour of the common people, the murderer Barabbas is loosed, and Jesus delivered up to be crucified. |
M'r 15:6 | 9Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired. |
M'r 15:7 BARABBAS | 10And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. |
M'r 15:8 | And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. |
M'r 15:9 | But Pilate answered them, saying, Will11 ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? |
M'r 15:10 | ¶ For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy12. |
M'r 15:11 INFLUENCE, EVIL LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | 13But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. |
M'r 15:12 | And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What14 will ye then that I shall do unto him whom15 ye call the King of the Jews? |
M'r 15:13 | And they cried out again, Crucify him. |
M'r 15:14 | Then Pilate said unto them, Why16, what evil hath he done? And17 they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. |
M'r 15:15 CONCEALMENT-EXPOSURE NATION, THE PILATE, PONTIUS | ¶ And so Pilate, willing18 to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when19 he had scourged him, to be crucified. |
M'r 15:16 | He is crowned with thorns, spit on, and mocked; |
M'r 15:16 | And the soldiers20 led him away into the hall, called Praetorium21; and they call together the whole band. |
M'r 15:17 | 22And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, |
M'r 15:18 | And began to salute him, Hail23, King of the Jews! |
M'r 15:19 | And they smote24 him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing25 their knees worshipped him. |
M'r 15:20 | ¶ And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led26 him out to crucify him. |
M'r 15:21 | faints in bearing his cross; |
M'r 15:21 SIMON Cyrene | And they compel27 one Simon a Cyrenian28, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus29, to bear30 his cross. |
M'r 15:22 CALVARY, MOUNT Golgotha Place of a Skull | ¶ And they bring him unto the place Golgotha31, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. |
M'r 15:23 MYRRH | And they33 gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but34 he received it not. |
M'r 15:24 SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST | And when they had crucified35 him, they parted36 his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. |
M'r 15:25 HOUR OF THE DAY, THIRD | And it was the37 third hour, and they crucified him. |
M'r 15:26 | And the superscription38 of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS39. |
M'r 15:27 | hangs between two thieves; |
M'r 15:27 | 40And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. |
M'r 15:28 | 41And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors. |
M'r 15:29 | suffers the triumphing reproaches of the Jews; |
M'r 15:29 SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST | And they42 that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah43, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, |
M'r 15:30 SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST | ¶ Save thyself, and come down from the cross. |
M'r 15:31 | Likewise also44 the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He45 saved others; himself he cannot save. |
M'r 15:32 SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST | Let Christ46 the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that47 we may see and48 believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him. |
M'r 15:33 HOUR OF THE DAY, NINTH | ¶ And when49 the sixth hour was come, there was darkness50 over the whole land until the ninth hour. |
M'r 15:34 SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST | And at51 the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi52, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why53 hast thou forsaken me? |
M'r 15:35 | And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he54 calleth Elias. |
M'r 15:36 | 55And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down. |
M'r 15:37 | 56And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. |
M'r 15:38 | 57And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. |
M'r 15:39 | but is confessed by the centurion to be the Son of God; |
M'r 15:39 CENTURIONS | And when the centurion58, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said59, Truly this man was the Son of God. |
M'r 15:40 MARY MARY SALOME | ¶ There were also women60 looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene61, and Mary the62 mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome63; |
M'r 15:41 TIMELY SERVICE Jerusalem Galilee | (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered64 unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem. |
M'r 15:42 | and is honourably buried by Joseph. |
M'r 15:42 DAY OF PREPARATION | ¶65And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, |
M'r 15:43 BOLDNESS, HOLY Arimathea | Joseph of Arimathaea, an66 honourable counsellor, which67 also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went68 in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. |
M'r 15:44 CENTURIONS | 69And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. |
M'r 15:45 | And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave70 the body to Joseph. |
M'r 15:46 | And he bought fine linen, and took71 him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid72 him in a sepulchre which was hewn73 out of a rock, and rolled74 a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. |
M'r 15:47 MARY MARY WOMEN | 75And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. |
