A conspiracy against Christ.
M'r 14:1
SIMPLICITY-DUPLICITY

After two1 days was the feast of the passover2, and of unleavened bread: and the chief3 priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by4 craft, and put him to death.

M'r 14:2

But they said, Not5 on the feast day, lest6 there be an uproar of the people.

Bethany 1

And being7 in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment8 of spikenard9 very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

M'r 14:4

And there10 were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why11 was this waste of the ointment made?

M'r 14:5

For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence12, and have been given13 to the poor. And they14 murmured against her.

M'r 14:6
COMMENDATION-REPROOF

And Jesus said, Let15 her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good16 work on me.

M'r 14:7

For ye have17 the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but18 me ye have not always.

M'r 14:8
TIMELY SERVICE
WORK AND WORKERS, RELIGIOUS

She hath done19 what she could: she is20 come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

M'r 14:9

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever21 this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial22 of her.

And when they heard it, they were26 glad, and promised27 to give him money. And he sought28 how he might conveniently betray him.

M'r 14:12
Christ himself foretells how he shall be betrayed by one of his disciples;
M'r 14:12
PASSOVER

And the first29 day of unleavened bread, when they killed30 the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where31 wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

M'r 14:13
PITCHERS

And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go32 ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

M'r 14:14

And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master33 saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I34 shall eat the passover with my disciples?

M'r 14:15

And he will35 shew you a large upper36 room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

M'r 14:16

And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found37 as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

M'r 14:17

38And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

M'r 14:18

And as39 they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily40 I say unto you, One41 of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

M'r 14:19

And they began to be sorrowful, and to42 say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

M'r 14:20

And he answered and said unto them, It is43 one of the twelve, that dippeth44 with me in the dish.

M'r 14:21

The Son of man indeed goeth45, as it is written of him: but46 woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good47 were it for that man if he had never been born.

M'r 14:22

And as48 they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed49, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take50, eat: this51 is my body.

M'r 14:23

And he took the cup, and when52 he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they53 all drank of it.

M'r 14:24

And he said unto them, This54 is my blood of the new testament, which55 is shed for many.

M'r 14:25

Verily I say unto you, I will56 drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new57 in the kingdom of God.

M'r 14:26

Mount of Olives

And when they had sung58 an hymn59, they went out into the mount of Olives.

M'r 14:27

And Jesus saith unto them, All60 ye shall be offended because of me this night: for61 it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

Galilee

62But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

M'r 14:29

But Peter said unto him, Although63 all shall be offended, yet will not I.

M'r 14:30

And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day64, even in this night, before65 the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

M'r 14:31
SECURITY-INSECURITY

But he spake66 the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise67 also said they all.

M'r 14:32
GETHSEMANE
Gethsemane

And they came68 to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while69 I shall pray.

M'r 14:33
JAMES
JOHN, THE BELOVED DISCIPLE, SON OF ZEBEDEE

And he taketh with him Peter70 and James and John, and began71 to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

M'r 14:34

And saith unto them, My soul72 is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch73.

M'r 14:35

And he went forward a little, and fell74 on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

M'r 14:36
SURRENDERED LIFE, THE
WEAKNESS-POWER

And he said, Abba75, Father, all76 things are possible unto thee; take77 away this cup from me: nevertheless78 not what I will, but what thou wilt.

M'r 14:37

And he cometh, and findeth79 them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon80, sleepest thou? couldest81 not thou watch one hour?

M'r 14:38

Watch82 ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit83 truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

M'r 14:39

And again he went84 away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

M'r 14:40

And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither85 wist they what to answer him.

M'r 14:41

And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep86 on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour87 is come; behold, the Son88 of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

M'r 14:42

89Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

M'r 14:43
Judas betrays him with a kiss.
M'r 14:43
JUDAS

And immediately, while90 he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with91 him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

M'r 14:44

And he that betrayed him had given them a token92, saying, Whomsoever93 I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead94 him away safely.

M'r 14:45
TREACHERY

And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master95, master; and kissed him.

M'r 14:46
He is apprehended in the garden;
M'r 14:46

96And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

M'r 14:47
ZEAL, UNWISE

97And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

M'r 14:48
FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are98 ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

M'r 14:49

I was99 daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but100 the scriptures must be fulfilled.

M'r 14:50
FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS

101And they all forsook him, and fled.

M'r 14:51
CLOTH

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

M'r 14:52

102And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

M'r 14:53
falsely accused and impiously condemned of the Jews' council;
M'r 14:53

And they led103 Jesus away to the high priest: and with104 him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

M'r 14:54

And Peter105 followed him afar off, even106 into the palace of the high priest: and he107 sat with the servants, and warmed108 himself at the fire.

M'r 14:55

And the chief priests and all the council sought109 for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found110 none.

M'r 14:56
WITNESSES, FALSE

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

M'r 14:57

And there arose certain, and bare111 false witness against him, saying,

M'r 14:58

112We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

M'r 14:59

113But neither so did their witness agree together.

M'r 14:60

114And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

M'r 14:61
TITLES AND NAMES

But he held115 his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art116 thou the Christ, the Son117 of the Blessed?

M'r 14:62
FUTURE, THE

And Jesus said, I am118: and ye shall see the Son119 of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

M'r 14:63

Then the high priest rent his120 clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

M'r 14:64

121Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

M'r 14:65
shamefully abused by them;
M'r 14:65

122And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

M'r 14:66
and thrice denied of Peter.
M'r 14:66

And as123 Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one124 of the maids of the high priest:

M'r 14:67
JESUS OF NAZARETH
PETER

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus125 of Nazareth.

M'r 14:68

But he denied126, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went127 out into the porch; and the128 cock crew.

M'r 14:69

And a maid129 saw him again, and began130 to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

M'r 14:70
GALILAEANS
PETER

And he denied it again. And a little131 after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for132 thou art a Galilaean, and thy133 speech agreeth thereto.

M'r 14:71
PETER

134But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

And the second135 time the cock crew. And Peter136 called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept137.
