¶ For the law having¹ a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with² those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect³.

For then would they not have⁴ ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience⁵ of sins.

But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance⁶ again made of sins every year.

For it is not⁷ possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take⁸ away sins.

Wherefore when⁹ he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice¹⁰ and offering thou wouldest not, but¹¹ a body hast thou prepared me¹²:

In burnt¹³ offerings and sacrifices for sin thou¹⁴ hast had no pleasure.

¶ Then said I, Lo¹⁵, I come (in¹⁶ the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

Then said he, Lo¹⁷, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh¹⁸ away the first, that he may establish the second.

¶ By the which will we¹⁹ are sanctified through the offering²⁰ of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

And every priest standeth daily²¹ ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which²² can never take away sins:

²³But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

²⁴From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

For by one offering he²⁵ hath perfected for ever them²⁶ that are sanctified.

²⁷Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

²⁸This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

And²⁹ their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

³⁰Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

¶ Having³¹ therefore, brethren, boldness³² to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

¶ By a new³³ and living way, which he hath consecrated³⁴ for us, through the veil, that is to say, his³⁵ flesh;

And having an³⁶ high priest over the house³⁷ of God;

Let us draw³⁸ near with a true³⁹ heart in full⁴⁰ assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled⁴¹ from an evil⁴² conscience, and our bodies⁴³ washed with pure water.

Let us hold⁴⁴ fast the profession of our faith without wavering⁴⁵; (for⁴⁶ he is faithful that promised;)

And let us consider⁴⁷ one another to provoke⁴⁸ unto love⁴⁹ and to good works:

Not forsaking⁵⁰ the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but⁵¹ exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye⁵² see the day approaching.

For if⁵³ we sin wilfully after⁵⁴ that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there⁵⁵ remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

But a certain⁵⁶ fearful looking for of judgment and fiery⁵⁷ indignation, which⁵⁸ shall devour the adversaries.

He that despised⁵⁹ Moses' law died without⁶⁰ mercy under⁶¹ two or three witnesses:

Of how⁶² much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden⁶³ under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood⁶⁴ of the covenant, wherewith⁶⁵ he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath⁶⁶ done despite unto the Spirit⁶⁷ of grace?

¶ For we know him that hath said, Vengeance⁶⁸ belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall⁶⁹ judge his people.

It is a fearful⁷⁰ thing to fall⁷¹ into the hands of the living God.

But call⁷² to remembrance the former days, in which, after⁷³ ye were illuminated, ye endured⁷⁴ a great fight of afflictions;

Partly, whilst ye were made⁷⁵ a gazingstock both by reproaches⁷⁶ and afflictions; and partly, whilst⁷⁷ ye became companions of them that were so used.

For ye had compassion of me in my⁷⁸ bonds, and took⁷⁹ joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have⁸⁰ in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Cast⁸¹ not away therefore your confidence, which hath great⁸² recompence of reward.

For ye have⁸³ need of patience, that, after⁸⁴ ye have done the will of God, ye might⁸⁵ receive the promise.

⁸⁶For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

Now the just⁸⁷ shall live by faith: but⁸⁸ if any man draw back, my⁸⁹ soul shall have no pleasure in him.

But we are⁹⁰ not of them who draw back unto⁹¹ perdition; but⁹² of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
