Now there were in the2 church that was at Antioch certain prophets3 and teachers; as Barnabas4, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius5 of Cyrene, and Manaen, which6 had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul7.

73When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

And as John fulfilled74 his course, he said, Whom75 think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

Men and brethren, children76 of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever77 among you feareth God, to you78 is the word of this salvation sent.

God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art91 my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now92 no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will93 give you the sure94 mercies95 of David.

Wherefore he saith also in96 another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see97 corruption.

For David, after he had served98 his own generation by the will of God, fell99 on sleep, and was100 laid unto his fathers, and saw101 corruption:

102But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles111 besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath112.

Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious113 proselytes followed114 Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded115 them to continue in the grace116 of God.

but the Jews gainsay and blaspheme, whereupon they turn to the Gentiles, of whom many believe.

And the next sabbath day came117 almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they118 were filled with envy, and spake119 against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.

Then Paul and Barnabas waxed120 bold, and said, It was121 necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing122 ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn123 to the Gentiles.

For so124 hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have125 set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou126 shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

But the Jews132 stirred up the devout133 and honourable134 women, and the chief men of the city, and raised135 persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled136 them out of their coasts.
