Ac 12:1 HERODS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT, THE POPULARITY | ¶ Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands2 to vex3 certain of the church. |
Ac 12:2 JAMES NATION, THE SUFFERING FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE | And he killed James4 the brother of John with5 the sword. |
Ac 12:3 PETER PUBLIC OPINION | And because he saw6 it pleased the Jews, he proceeded7 further to take Peter also. (Then8 were the days of unleavened bread.) |
Ac 12:4 EASTER SUFFERING FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE | And when he had apprehended him, he put9 him in prison, and delivered10 him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending11 after Easter12 to bring him forth to the people. |
Ac 12:5 PRAYER | ¶ Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. |
Ac 12:6 FETTERS KEEPERS SLEEP-WAKEFULNESS WEAKNESS-POWER | And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same14 night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound15 with two chains: and the16 keepers before the door kept the prison. |
Ac 12:7 ANGELS DELIVERANCE | And, behold, the angel17 of the Lord came upon him, and a18 light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise19 up quickly. And his20 chains fell off from his hands. |
Ac 12:8 DRESS | And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. |
Ac 12:9 | And he went21 out, and followed him; and wist not22 that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. |
Ac 12:10 IRON | ¶ When they were past the first23 and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which24 opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. |
Ac 12:11 EXPECTATION-DISAPPOINTMENT | And when Peter was come25 to himself, he said, Now I know26 of a surety, that the27 Lord hath sent his angel, and hath28 delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all29 the expectation of the people of the Jews. |

Ac 12:14 FAITH-UNBELIEF | And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened35 not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. |
Ac 12:15 FAITH-UNBELIEF RELIGION, TRUE-FALSE | And they said unto her, Thou36 art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is37 his angel. |
Ac 12:16 | But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. |
Ac 12:17 | But he, beckoning38 unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared39 unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James40, and to the brethren. And he41 departed, and went into another place. |
Ac 12:18 | Now as soon as it was day, there42 was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter. |
Ac 12:19 CAESAREA Judea Caesarea | And when Herod had sought for him43, and found him not, he examined44 the keepers, and commanded45 that they should be put to death. And he went46 down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode. |
Ac 12:20 | Herod in his pride taking to himself the honour due to God, is stricken by an angel, and dies miserably. |

Ac 12:24 | After his death, the word of God prospers. |
