¶ Beloved, believe not¹ every spirit, but try² the spirits whether they are of God: because many³ false prophets are gone out into the world.

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every⁴ spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come⁵ in the flesh is of God:

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this⁶ is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

¶ Ye are⁷ of God, little children, and have⁸ overcome them: because greater⁹ is he that is in you, than¹⁰ he that is in the world.

They are¹¹ of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and¹² the world heareth them.

We are¹³ of God: he that knoweth¹⁴ God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby¹⁵ know we the spirit of truth¹⁶, and¹⁷ the spirit of error.

¶ Beloved, let¹⁸ us love one another: for love is¹⁹ of God; and every²⁰ one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth²¹ God.

He that loveth not knoweth²² not God; for God is²³ love.

In this was²⁴ manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent²⁵ his only²⁶ begotten Son into the world, that we²⁷ might live through him.

¶ Herein²⁸ is love, not²⁹ that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent³⁰ his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

³¹Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

No man hath seen³² God at any time. If we love one³³ another, God dwelleth in us, and his³⁴ love is perfected in us.

³⁵Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

¶ And we have³⁶ seen and do testify that the Father³⁷ sent the Son to be the Saviour³⁸ of the world.

Whosoever shall confess³⁹ that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth⁴⁰ in him, and he in God.

And we⁴¹ have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love⁴²; and he⁴³ that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

¶ Herein is our love⁴⁴ made perfect, that we may⁴⁵ have boldness in the day⁴⁶ of judgment: because as⁴⁷ he is, so are we in this world.

There is no⁴⁸ fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath⁴⁹ torment. He that⁵⁰ feareth is not made perfect in love.

⁵¹We love him, because he first loved us.

¶ If a man⁵² say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not⁵³ his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

⁵⁴And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
