Ps 38:1 | ¶ A Psalm of David, to bring2 to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke3 me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot4 displeasure. |
Ps 38:2 | For thine5 arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand6 presseth me sore. |
Ps 38:3 | There is no soundness7 in my flesh because of thine anger; neither8 is there any rest9 in my bones because of my sin. |
Ps 38:4 INNOCENCE-GUILT | For mine10 iniquities are gone over mine head: as an11 heavy burden they are too heavy for me. |
Ps 38:5 | My wounds12 stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. |
Ps 38:6 | I am troubled13; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning14 all the day long. |
Ps 38:7 | For my loins15 are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no16 soundness in my flesh. |
Ps 38:8 REST-UNREST | I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared17 by reason of the disquietness of my heart. |
Ps 38:9 DESIRE-SATISFACTION | Lord18, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning19 is not hid from thee. |
Ps 38:10 TRANSIENT-ENDURING | ¶ My heart20 panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light21 of mine eyes, it also is gone from22 me. |
Ps 38:11 FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS | My lovers23 and my friends stand24 aloof from my sore25; and my kinsmen stand afar off. |
Ps 38:12 MIND, CARNAL-SPIRITUAL | ¶ They also that seek after my life lay snares26 for me: and they that seek my hurt speak27 mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long. |
Ps 38:13 | 28But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. |
Ps 38:14 | Thus I was as a man that heareth29 not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. |
Ps 38:15 | For in thee,30 O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear31, O Lord32 my God. |
Ps 38:16 | For I said33, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot34 slippeth, they magnify35 themselves against me. |
Ps 38:17 | For I am ready to halt36, and my sorrow37 is continually before me. |
Ps 38:18 PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE | For38 I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry39 for my sin. |
Ps 38:19 | But40 mine enemies are lively41, and they are strong: and they that42 hate me wrongfully are multiplied. |
Ps 38:20 GRATITUDE-INGRATITUDE | ¶ They also that render43 evil for good are mine adversaries; because44 I follow the thing that good is. |
Ps 38:21 | Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God45, be not far from me. |
