M't 13:1 | The parable of the sower and the seed; |
M't 13:1 GALILEE, SEA OF | ¶ The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by1 the sea side. |
M't 13:2 POPULARITY | And great2 multitudes were gathered together unto him, so3 that he went into a ship4, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. |
M't 13:3 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE | And he spake many things unto them in5 parables6, saying, Behold, a sower7 went forth to sow; |
M't 13:4 | And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way8 side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: |
M't 13:5 | 9Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: |
M't 13:6 STEADFASTNESS-INSTABILITY | And when10 the sun was up, they were scorched; and because11 they had no root, they withered away. |
M't 13:7 REST-UNREST THORNS | 12And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: |
M't 13:8 DEGREES OF FRUITFULNESS FRUITFULNESS-UNFRUITFULNESS | But other fell into good13 ground, and brought forth fruit, some an14 hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. |
M't 13:9 | 15Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. |
M't 13:10 | ¶ And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why16 speakest thou unto them in parables? |
M't 13:11 PRIVILEGES, SPECIAL, OF BELIEVERS | He answered and said unto them, Because17 it is given unto you to know the mysteries18 of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. |
M't 13:12 | For whosoever19 hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from20 him shall be taken away even that he hath. |
M't 13:13 DISCERNMENT-DULLNESS | 21Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. |
M't 13:14 | And in them is fulfilled the prophecy22 of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: |
M't 13:15 DEAFNESS-HEARING KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE MIND, CARNAL-SPIRITUAL | For this people's heart23 is waxed gross, and their ears24 are dull of hearing, and their eyes25 they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be26 converted, and I27 should heal them. |
M't 13:16 RECEPTION-REJECTION OF GOD AND TRUTH | 28But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. |
M't 13:17 | For verily I say unto you, That many29 prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. |
M't 13:18 | the exposition of it. |
M't 13:18 | 30Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. |
M't 13:19 DEAFNESS-HEARING DISCERNMENT-DULLNESS SATAN-EVIL SPIRITS TITLES AND NAMES | When any one heareth the word31 of the kingdom, and understandeth32 it not, then cometh the wicked33 one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This34 is he which received seed by the way side. |
M't 13:20 | ¶ But he that received35 the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon36 with joy receiveth it; |
M't 13:21 | Yet hath he not root37 in himself, but dureth38 for39 a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is40 offended. |
M't 13:22 FRUITFULNESS-UNFRUITFULNESS REST-UNREST REST-UNREST WORLDLINESS-UNWORLDLINESS | He also that received seed41 among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care42 of this world, and the deceitfulness43 of riches, choke44 the word, and he becometh unfruitful. |
M't 13:23 FRUITFULNESS-UNFRUITFULNESS RECEPTION-REJECTION OF GOD AND TRUTH | But he that received45 seed into the good46 ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth47 fruit, and bringeth forth, some an48 hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. |
M't 13:24 | The parable of the tares; |
M't 13:24 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, SIMILITUDES OF | ¶ Another parable put49 he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom50 of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good51 seed in his field: |
M't 13:25 | But while men52 slept, his enemy53 came and sowed tares54 among the wheat, and went his way. |
M't 13:26 | 55But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. |
M't 13:27 | So the servants56 of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence57 then hath it tares? |
M't 13:28 | He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou58 then that we go and gather them up? |
M't 13:29 | But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. |
M't 13:30 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE ANGEL REAPERS ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION MIXED MULTITUDE WHEAT | ¶ Let both59 grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the60 reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind61 them in bundles to burn62 them: but63 gather the wheat into my barn. |
M't 13:31 | of the mustard seed; |
M't 13:31 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, SIMILITUDES OF KINGDOM SIMILITUDES MUSTARD SEED NATURE'S LESSON | Another parable put64 he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom65 of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: |
M't 13:32 WEAKNESS-POWER | Which indeed is the least66 of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that67 the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. |
M't 13:33 | of the leaven; |
M't 13:33 KINGDOM SIMILITUDES LEAVEN TITLES AND NAMES | Another68 parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like69 unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures70 of meal, till71 the whole was leavened. |
M't 13:34 | 72All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: |
M't 13:35 LEADERS, RELIGIOUS PROPHECY PROPHETS, VOICE OF | That it73 might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open74 my mouth in parables; I will utter75 things which have been kept secret from76 the foundation of the world. |
M't 13:36 | exposition of the parable of the tares. |
M't 13:36 RECEPTION-REJECTION OF GOD AND TRUTH | Then Jesus77 sent the multitude away, and went78 into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare79 unto us the parable of the tares of the field. |
M't 13:37 TEACHER, DIVINE | He80 answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is81 the Son of man; |
M't 13:38 RIGHTEOUS-WICKED SATAN-EVIL SPIRITS TITLES AND NAMES | The field is82 the world; the good seed83 are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one84; |
M't 13:39 ANGEL REAPERS END OF THE WORLD OR CONSUMMATION OF THE AGE SATAN-EVIL SPIRITS | The enemy that85 sowed them is the devil; the harvest is86 the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. |
M't 13:40 | ¶88As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. |
M't 13:41 FUTURE STATE OF THE WICKED | The Son89 of man shall send forth his angels, and they90 shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend91, and them which do iniquity; |
M't 13:42 FUTURE STATE OF THE WICKED FUTURE STATE OF THE WICKED TEETH GNASHING OF | And shall cast92 them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing93 and gnashing of teeth. |
M't 13:43 FUTURE, THE RIGHTEOUS-WICKED | Then shall94 the righteous shine forth as the sun in95 the kingdom of their Father. Who96 hath ears to hear, let him hear. |
M't 13:44 | The parable of the hidden treasure; |
M't 13:44 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, SIMILITUDES OF POVERTY-RICHES POVERTY-RICHES | ¶ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like97 unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy98 thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth99 that field. |
M't 13:45 | of the pearl; |
M't 13:45 PEARLS | Again, the kingdom of heaven is like100 unto a merchant man, seeking101 goodly pearls: |
M't 13:46 | Who, when he had found one102 pearl of great price, went103 and sold all that he had, and bought it. |
M't 13:47 | of the drag net cast into the sea. |
M't 13:47 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, SIMILITUDES OF MIXED MULTITUDE | Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net104, that was cast into the sea, and gathered105 of every kind: |
M't 13:48 | Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered106 the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. |
M't 13:49 ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION END OF THE WORLD OR CONSUMMATION OF THE AGE | So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels107 shall come forth, and sever108 the wicked from among the just, |
M't 13:50 | ¶ And shall cast109 them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing110 and gnashing of teeth. |
M't 13:51 | Jesus saith unto them, Have111 ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. |
M't 13:52 | Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe112 which113 is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things114 new and old. |
M't 13:53 | Christ is contemned of his own countrymen. |
M't 13:53 | ¶ And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he115 departed thence. |
M't 13:54 ASTONISHMENT WISDOM-FOLLY WORKS OF CHRIST, MIGHTY | And when116 he was come into his own country, he taught117 them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were118 astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? |
M't 13:55 ARTS AND CRAFTS BRETHREN CONTEMPT HUMILITY-PRIDE JAMES JOSES JUDAS MARY SIMON SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST | Is not this the carpenter's119 son? is not his mother called Mary? and his121 brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? |
M't 13:56 | And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? |
M't 13:57 CHRIST JESUS LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | And they122 were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet123 is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. |
M't 13:58 FAITH-UNBELIEF HELPS-HINDRANCES | 124And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. |
