M'r 12:1
In a parable of the vineyard let out to wicked husbandmen Christ foretells the reprobation of the Jews, and the calling of the Gentiles.
M'r 12:1
BUSINESS LIFE
BUSINESS LIFE

And he began1 to speak unto them by parables. A certain2 man planted3 a vineyard, and set4 an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let5 it out to husbandmen, and went6 into a far country.

M'r 12:2
AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE
AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE

And at7 the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant8, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

M'r 12:3

And they9 caught him, and beat him, and sent10 him away empty.

M'r 12:4

And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

M'r 12:5

And again he sent another; and him11 they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.

M'r 12:6

Having yet therefore one12 son, his13 wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They14 will reverence my son.

M'r 12:7

But those husbandmen said among themselves, This15 is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.

M'r 12:8

And they took him, and killed him, and cast16 him out of the vineyard.

M'r 12:9

What shall17 therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will18 come and destroy the husbandmen, and will19 give the vineyard unto others.

M'r 12:10

And have20 ye not read this scripture; The stone21 which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

M'r 12:11

22This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

M'r 12:12

And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared23 the people: for they knew24 that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

M'r 12:13
He avoids the snare of the Pharisees and Herodians about paying tribute to Caesar;
M'r 12:13
SECTS AND PARTIES, JEWISH
SNARES LAID BY THE WICKED

And they send25 unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians26, to catch him in his words.

M'r 12:14

And when they were come, they say unto him, Master27, we know28 that thou art true, and carest29 for no man: for thou30 regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it31 lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

M'r 12:15

Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing32 their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why33 tempt ye me? bring me a penny34, that I may see it.

M'r 12:16

And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image35 and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.

M'r 12:17

And Jesus answering said unto them, Render36 to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to37 God the things that are God's. And they38 marvelled at him.

M'r 12:18
convicts the Sadducees of error, who denied the resurrection;
M'r 12:18

Then come39 unto him the Sadducees, which say40 there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

M'r 12:19

Master, Moses wrote unto us, If41 a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that42 his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

M'r 12:20

43Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

M'r 12:21

And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

M'r 12:22

And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

M'r 12:23

In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

M'r 12:24
BIBLE, THE; THE WORD OF GOD

And Jesus answering said unto them, Do44 ye not therefore err, because45 ye know not the scriptures, neither46 the power of God?

M'r 12:25
ANGELS

For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but47 are as the angels which are in heaven.

M'r 12:26
BURNING BUSH

And as touching the dead, that they rise: have48 ye not read in the book49 of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am50 the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

M'r 12:27
LIFE CONTINUOUS

He is not51 the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye52 therefore do greatly err.

M'r 12:28
resolves the scribe, who questioned of the first commandment;
M'r 12:28

And one53 of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which54 is the first commandment of all?

M'r 12:29
ONE GOD

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear55, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

M'r 12:30

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

M'r 12:31
SOCIAL LIFE

And the second is like, namely this, Thou56 shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

M'r 12:32
NONE LIKE GOD

And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for57 there is one God; and there is none other but he:

M'r 12:33
RELIGION, TRUE-FALSE

And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more58 than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

M'r 12:34
PRUDENCE-RASHNESS

And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou59 art not far from the kingdom of God. And no60 man after that durst ask him any question.

M'r 12:35
refutes the opinion that the scribes held of Christ;
M'r 12:35
CHRIST'S DIVINITY-HUMANITY

And Jesus answered and said, while61 he taught in the temple, How62 say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David?

M'r 12:36

For David himself said by63 the Holy Ghost, The LORD64 said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

M'r 12:37
POPULARITY

David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence65 is he then his son? And the66 common people heard him gladly.

M'r 12:38
bidding the people to beware of their ambition and hypocrisy;
M'r 12:38
DRESS
SCRIBES

And he said67 unto them in his doctrine, Beware68 of the scribes, which69 love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

M'r 12:39

70And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

M'r 12:40

Which devour71 widows' houses, and for a pretence make long72 prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

M'r 12:41
and commends the poor widow for her two mites, above all.
M'r 12:41
MONEY
TREASURIES

And Jesus sat73 over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money74 into the treasury75: and many that were rich cast in much.

And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites76, which make a farthing.

M'r 12:43
LIBERALITY-PARSIMONY-COVETOUSNESS

And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That77 this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

M'r 12:44

For all they did cast in of78 their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her79 living.
