¶ Go¹ to now, ye² rich men, weep³ and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

Your riches⁴ are corrupted, and your garments⁵ are motheaten.

Your gold and silver is cankered⁶; and the rust of them shall be a witness⁷ against you, and shall⁸ eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have⁹ heaped treasure together for the last¹⁰ days.

Behold, the hire¹¹ of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries¹² of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord¹³ of sabaoth.

Ye have lived¹⁴ in pleasure on the earth, and been¹⁵ wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in¹⁶ a day of slaughter.

Ye have¹⁷ condemned and killed the just; and he¹⁸ doth not resist you.

Be patient¹⁹ therefore, brethren, unto²⁰ the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until²¹ he receive the early and latter rain.

Be ye also²² patient; stablish²³ your hearts: for²⁴ the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Grudge not²⁵ one against another, brethren, lest²⁶ ye be condemned: behold, the judge²⁷ standeth before the door.

¶ Take, my brethren, the prophets, who²⁸ have spoken in the name of the Lord, for²⁹ an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

Behold, we count³⁰ them happy which endure. Ye³¹ have heard of the patience of Job, and have³² seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is³³ very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

¶ But above³⁴ all things, my brethren, swear not³⁵, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but³⁶ let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest³⁷ ye fall into condemnation.

Is any among³⁸ you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry³⁹? let him sing⁴⁰ psalms.

Is any sick among you? let him call for⁴¹ the elders of the church; and let them pray⁴² over him, anointing⁴³ him with oil in the name of the Lord:

And the prayer⁴⁴ of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he⁴⁵ have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Confess⁴⁶ your faults one to another, and pray⁴⁷ one for another, that⁴⁸ ye may be healed. The effectual⁴⁹ fervent prayer of a righteous⁵⁰ man availeth much.

Elias⁵¹ was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he⁵³ prayed earnestly⁵⁴ that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

⁵⁵And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Brethren, if any of you do err⁵⁶ from the truth, and one⁵⁷ convert him;

¶ Let him know, that he⁵⁸ which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save⁵⁹ a soul from death⁶⁰, and shall hide⁶¹ a multitude of sins.
