¶ Let us therefore¹ fear, lest, a promise² being left us of entering into his³ rest, any⁴ of you should seem to come short of it.

For unto us⁵ was the gospel preached⁶, as well as unto them: but the word preached did⁷ not profit them, not being⁸ mixed with faith in them that heard it.

For we⁹ which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I¹⁰ have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works¹¹ were finished from¹² the foundation of the world.

For he spake in¹³ a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God¹⁴ did rest the seventh day from all his works.

¹⁵And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

Seeing therefore it remaineth¹⁶ that some¹⁷ must enter therein, and they¹⁸ to whom it was¹⁹ first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying²⁰ in David, To day²¹, after²² so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

For if Jesus had²⁴ given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

There remaineth²⁵ therefore a rest²⁶ to the people of God.

¶ For he that²⁷ is entered into his rest, he also hath²⁸ ceased from his own works, as²⁹ God did from his.

¶ Let³⁰ us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest³¹ any man fall after the same example of unbelief³².

For the word³³ of God is quick³⁴, and powerful, and sharper³⁵ than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is³⁶ a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Neither is there³⁷ any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked³⁸ and opened unto the eyes of him with³⁹ whom we have to do.

Seeing then that we have a great⁴⁰ high priest, that is⁴¹ passed into the heavens, Jesus⁴² the Son of God, let⁴³ us hold fast our profession.

For we have⁴⁴ not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted⁴⁵ like as we are, yet⁴⁶ without sin.

Let us therefore come⁴⁷ boldly unto the throne⁴⁸ of grace, that we may obtain⁴⁹ mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
