Ac 17:1
Paul preaches at Thessalonica, where some believe,
Ac 17:1
THESSALONICA
Apollonia
Thessalonica
Amphipolis

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica1, where2 was a synagogue of the Jews:

Ac 17:2
MORTALITY-IMMORTALITY
SABBATH

And Paul, as3 his manner was, went4 in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned5 with them out of the scriptures,

Ac 17:3
CHRIST JESUS
LEADERS, RELIGIOUS
MORTALITY-IMMORTALITY

Opening6 and alleging, that Christ7 must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this8 Jesus, whom I preach9 unto you, is Christ.

Ac 17:4
CHURCH, THE
GREEKS
PROSELYTES
SILAS OR SILVANUS

And some10 of them believed, and consorted11 with Paul and Silas12; and of the devout13 Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief14 women not a few.

Ac 17:5
and others persecute him.
Ac 17:5
JASON
JEWISH JEALOUSY
QUIETNESS-TUMULT
RABBLE, THE

But the Jews which believed not, moved15 with envy, took16 unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set17 all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason18, and sought to bring them out to the people.

Ac 17:6
UNITY OF EVIL
WITNESSES, FALSE

And when they found them not, they drew19 Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These20 that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

Ac 17:7

Whom Jason hath received: and these21 all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

Ac 17:8

22And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

Ac 17:9

And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

Ac 17:10
He is sent to Berea, and preaches there.
Ac 17:10
BEREA
Berea

And the brethren23 immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea24: who coming thither went25 into the synagogue of the Jews.

Ac 17:11
BIBLE, THE; THE WORD OF GOD
RECEPTION-REJECTION OF GOD AND TRUTH
THESSALONICA
Thessalonica

These were more noble26 than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the27 word with all readiness of mind, and searched the28 scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Ac 17:12
FAITH-UNBELIEF

Therefore many29 of them believed; also of honourable30 women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

Ac 17:13
Being persecuted by Jews from Thessalonica,
Ac 17:13
BEREA
JEWISH JEALOUSY
Berea
Thessalonica

But when the Jews31 of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred32 up the people.

Ac 17:14
TIMOTHY, OR TIMOTHEUS

And then33 immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it34 were to the sea: but35 Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

Ac 17:15
ATHENS
Athens

And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens36: and receiving37 a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

Ac 17:16
he comes to Athens, and disputes and preaches the living God, to them unknown;
Ac 17:16
FALSE WORSHIP
Athens

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry39.

Ac 17:17
MARKETPLACES

Therefore disputed40 he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout41 persons, and in the market daily42 with them that met with him.

Ac 17:18
FAITH-UNBELIEF
MORTALITY-IMMORTALITY
PHILOSOPHY, VANITY OF HUMAN
REVERENCE-IRREVERENCE
SELF-INDULGENCE-SELF-DENIAL
STOICS

Then certain philosophers43 of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered44 him. And some said, What will this babbler45 say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus46, and the resurrection.

Ac 17:19
Areopagus

And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus47, saying, May48 we know what this new49 doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

Ac 17:20

For thou bringest certain strange50 things to our ears: we would know therefore what51 these things mean.

Ac 17:21
CURIOSITY

(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent52 their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

Ac 17:22
ATHENS
PAUL
Areopagus
Athens

Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive54 that in all things ye are too superstitious.

Ac 17:23
FALSE WORSHIP
KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE
RELIGION, TRUE-FALSE

For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions55, I found an altar with this inscription, TO56 THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly57 worship, him declare I unto you.

Ac 17:24
CREATOR
SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD
SPIRIT, GOD A

God that made58 the world and all things therein, seeing59 that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth60 not in temples made with hands;

Ac 17:25
BREATH OF LIFE
LIFE-DEATH

Neither is61 worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing62 he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

Ac 17:26
RULER OF DESTINY
SOCIAL LIFE

And hath made63 of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined64 the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

Ac 17:27
FELLOWSHIP-ESTRANGEMENT
OMNIPRESENCE
SEARCH FOR GOD
SEEING GOD

That they65 should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be66 not far from every one of us:

Ac 17:28
CREATOR

For in him67 we live, and move, and have our being; as68 certain also of your own poets have said, For we are69 also his offspring.

Ac 17:29
FALSE WORSHIP
FALSE WORSHIP

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought70 not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven71 by art and man's device.

Ac 17:30
MEEKNESS-RETALIATION
PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE

And the times72 of this ignorance God winked at; but73 now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Ac 17:31
FUTURE, THE
UNIVERSAL JUDGMENT

Because he hath appointed74 a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance75 unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Ac 17:32
whereby, though some mock, many are converted unto Christ.
Ac 17:32
FAITH-UNBELIEF
HASTE-DELAY
MOCKING
MORTALITY-IMMORTALITY

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some76 mocked: and others said, We will77 hear thee again of this matter.

Ac 17:33

So Paul departed from among them.

Ac 17:34

Howbeit certain78 men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite79, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
