¶ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited² patiently for the LORD; and he inclined³ unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought⁴ me up also out of an horrible pit⁵, out of the miry⁶ clay, and set⁷ my feet upon a rock, and established⁸ my goings.

And he⁹ hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise¹⁰ unto our God: many¹¹ shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Blessed¹² is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth¹³ not the proud, nor such as turn¹⁴ aside to lies.

Many¹⁵, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts¹⁶ which are to us-ward: they cannot¹⁷ be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

¶ Sacrifice¹⁸ and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears¹⁹ hast thou opened²⁰: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

Then said I, Lo,²¹ I come: in the²² volume of the book it is written of me,

I delight²³ to do thy will, O my God: yea,²⁴ thy law is within my heart²⁵.

I have preached²⁶ righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not²⁷ refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest²⁸.

¶ I have not hid²⁹ thy righteousness³⁰ within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness³¹ and thy salvation³²: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness³³ and thy truth from the great congregation.

¶ Withhold³⁴ not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy³⁵ lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

For innumerable³⁶ evils have compassed me about: mine³⁷ iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are³⁸ more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart³⁹ faileth⁴⁰ me.

Be⁴¹ pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make⁴² haste to help me.

Let them be ashamed⁴³ and confounded together that⁴⁴ seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven⁴⁵ backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

Let them be desolate⁴⁶ for a reward of their shame that say⁴⁷ unto me, Aha, aha.

Let all⁴⁸ those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love⁴⁹ thy salvation say⁵⁰ continually, The LORD be magnified.

But I am poor⁵¹ and needy; yet the Lord⁵² thinketh upon me: thou art my help⁵³ and my deliverer; make⁵⁴ no tarrying, O my God.
