¶ O give² thanks unto the LORD, for he is good³: for his mercy⁴ endureth for ever.

Let the⁵ redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from⁶ the hand of the enemy;

And gathered⁷ them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south⁸.

They wandered⁹ in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found¹⁰ no city to dwell in.

¹¹Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

Then¹² they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered¹³ them out of their distresses.

And he led¹⁴ them forth by the right way, that they¹⁵ might go to a city of habitation.

Oh that men¹⁶ would praise¹⁷ the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful¹⁸ works to the children of men!

¹⁹For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

¶ Such²⁰ as sit²¹ in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound²² in affliction and iron;

Because²³ they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned²⁴ the counsel of the most High:

Therefore he brought²⁵ down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there²⁶ was none to help.

²⁷Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

He brought²⁸ them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake²⁹ their bands in sunder.

³⁰Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

³¹For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

¶ Fools³² because³³ of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

Their soul abhorreth³⁴ all manner of meat; and they³⁵ draw near unto the gates of death.

³⁶Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

¶ He sent³⁷ his word, and healed³⁸ them, and delivered³⁹ them from their destructions.

⁴⁰Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

And let them sacrifice⁴¹ the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare⁴² his works with rejoicing⁴³.

¶ They⁴⁴ that go down⁴⁵ to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;

These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders⁴⁶ in the deep.

For he commandeth⁴⁷, and raiseth⁴⁸ the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.

They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul⁴⁹ is melted because of trouble.

They reel to and fro, and stagger⁵⁰ like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end⁵¹.

⁵²Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.

⁵³He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

¶ Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth⁵⁴ them unto their desired haven.

Oh that men⁵⁵ would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful⁵⁶ works to the children of men!

Let them exalt⁵⁷ him also in the congregation⁵⁸ of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

¶ He turneth⁵⁹ rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings⁶⁰ into dry ground;

A fruitful⁶¹ land into barrenness⁶², for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

He turneth⁶³ the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.

And there he⁶⁴ maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city⁶⁵ for habitation;

And sow⁶⁶ the fields, and plant vineyards, which may⁶⁷ yield fruits of increase.

He blesseth⁶⁸ them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth⁶⁹ not their cattle to decrease.

Again,⁷⁰ they are⁷¹ minished and brought low through oppression⁷², affliction, and sorrow.

¶ He poureth⁷³ contempt⁷⁴ upon princes, and causeth⁷⁵ them to wander in the wilderness⁷⁶, where there is no way.

Yet setteth⁷⁷ he the poor on high from⁷⁸ affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.

The righteous⁷⁹ shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity⁸⁰ shall stop her mouth.

Whoso is wise⁸¹, and will observe these things, even they shall understand⁸² the lovingkindness of the LORD.
