Ps 107:1 | The psalmist exhorts the redeemed, in praising God, to observe his manifold providence, |
Ps 107:1 | ¶ O give2 thanks unto the LORD, for he is good3: for his mercy4 endureth for ever. |
Ps 107:2 TESTIMONY, RELIGIOUS | Let the5 redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from6 the hand of the enemy; |
Ps 107:3 | And gathered7 them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south8. |
Ps 107:4 | over travellers; |
Ps 107:4 | They wandered9 in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found10 no city to dwell in. |
Ps 107:5 | 11Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. |
Ps 107:6 | Then12 they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered13 them out of their distresses. |
Ps 107:7 | And he led14 them forth by the right way, that they15 might go to a city of habitation. |
Ps 107:8 | Oh that men16 would praise17 the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful18 works to the children of men! |
Ps 107:9 DESIRE-SATISFACTION | 19For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. |
Ps 107:10 | over captives; |
Ps 107:10 SHADOW OF DEATH | ¶ Such20 as sit21 in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound22 in affliction and iron; |
Ps 107:11 | Because23 they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned24 the counsel of the most High: |
Ps 107:12 NO HELPER | Therefore he brought25 down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there26 was none to help. |
Ps 107:13 | 27Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses. |
Ps 107:14 | He brought28 them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake29 their bands in sunder. |
Ps 107:15 | 30Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! |
Ps 107:16 | 31For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder. |
Ps 107:17 | over sick men; |
Ps 107:17 COMFORT-MISERY HEALTH-DISEASE | ¶ Fools32 because33 of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. |
Ps 107:18 HEALTH-DISEASE HEALTH-DISEASE | Their soul abhorreth34 all manner of meat; and they35 draw near unto the gates of death. |
Ps 107:19 | 36Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. |
Ps 107:20 | ¶ He sent37 his word, and healed38 them, and delivered39 them from their destructions. |
Ps 107:21 | 40Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! |
Ps 107:22 GRATITUDE-INGRATITUDE SACRIFICES | And let them sacrifice41 the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare42 his works with rejoicing43. |
Ps 107:23 | over seamen; |
Ps 107:23 MARINERS | ¶ They44 that go down45 to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; |
Ps 107:24 DEEP, THE OR THE SEA | These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders46 in the deep. |
Ps 107:25 | For he commandeth47, and raiseth48 the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. |
Ps 107:26 | They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul49 is melted because of trouble. |
Ps 107:27 DILEMMA, WORLDLY | They reel to and fro, and stagger50 like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end51. |
Ps 107:28 | 52Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. |
Ps 107:29 WAVES, OF THE SEA WEAKNESS-POWER | 53He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. |
Ps 107:30 | ¶ Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth54 them unto their desired haven. |
Ps 107:31 | Oh that men55 would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful56 works to the children of men! |
Ps 107:32 HONOUR-DISHONOUR | Let them exalt57 him also in the congregation58 of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. |
Ps 107:33 | and in divers varieties of life. |
Ps 107:33 | ¶ He turneth59 rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings60 into dry ground; |
Ps 107:34 | A fruitful61 land into barrenness62, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. |
Ps 107:35 | He turneth63 the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. |
Ps 107:36 | And there he64 maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city65 for habitation; |
Ps 107:37 | And sow66 the fields, and plant vineyards, which may67 yield fruits of increase. |
Ps 107:38 BLESSINGS-AFFLICTIONS | He blesseth68 them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth69 not their cattle to decrease. |
Ps 107:39 | Again,70 they are71 minished and brought low through oppression72, affliction, and sorrow. |
Ps 107:40 | ¶ He poureth73 contempt74 upon princes, and causeth75 them to wander in the wilderness76, where there is no way. |
Ps 107:41 | Yet setteth77 he the poor on high from78 affliction, and maketh him families like a flock. |
Ps 107:42 SILENCE-SPEECH | The righteous79 shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity80 shall stop her mouth. |
Ps 107:43 | Whoso is wise81, and will observe these things, even they shall understand82 the lovingkindness of the LORD. |
