¶¹Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

¶ The fear² of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth³ against his own soul.

¶ It is an⁴ honour for a man to cease from strife: but⁵ every fool will be meddling.

¶ The sluggard⁶ will not plow by reason of the cold⁷; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

¶⁸Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

¶ Most men will proclaim⁹ every one his own goodness¹⁰: but a faithful man who can find?

¶ The just¹¹ man walketh in his integrity: his children¹² are blessed after him.

¶¹³A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

¶¹⁴Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

¶ Divers weights, and divers measures¹⁵, both¹⁶ of them are alike abomination¹⁷ to the LORD.

¶¹⁸Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

¶¹⁹The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

¶ Love²⁰ not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open²¹ thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

¶ It is naught²², it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

¶ There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but²³ the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

¶ Take his²⁴ garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange²⁵ woman.

¶ Bread of deceit²⁶ is sweet²⁷ to a man; but afterwards his²⁸ mouth shall be filled with gravel.

¶ Every purpose²⁹ is established by counsel: and³⁰ with good advice make war.

¶ He that goeth³¹ about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle³² not with him that flattereth³³ with his lips.

¶ Whoso curseth³⁴ his³⁵ father or his mother, his lamp³⁶ shall be put out in obscure darkness.

¶ An inheritance may be gotten³⁷ hastily at the beginning; but³⁸ the end thereof shall not be blessed.

¶ Say not thou, I³⁹ will recompense evil; but wait⁴⁰ on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

¶ Divers weights⁴¹ are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance⁴² is not good.

¶ Man's⁴³ goings are of the LORD; how⁴⁴ can a man then understand his own way?

¶ It is a snare⁴⁵ to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after⁴⁶ vows to make enquiry.

¶ A wise⁴⁷ king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth⁴⁸ the wheel over them.

¶ The spirit⁴⁹ of man is the candle⁵⁰ of the LORD, searching⁵¹ all the inward parts of the belly.

¶ Mercy⁵² and truth preserve the king: and his⁵⁴ throne is upholden by mercy.

¶ The glory⁵⁵ of young men is their strength: and the beauty⁵⁶ of old men is the gray head.

¶ The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil⁵⁷: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
