Ec 1:3 BUSINESS LIFE | What profit4 hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under5 the sun? |
Ec 1:4 | because the creatures are restless in their courses, |
Ec 1:4 | ¶ One generation6 passeth away, and another generation cometh: but7 the earth abideth for ever. |
Ec 1:5 SUN, THE | The sun8 also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth9 to his place where he arose. |
Ec 1:6 | The wind10 goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. |
Ec 1:7 | All the rivers run11 into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again12. |
Ec 1:8 EMPTINESS-FULNESS | All things are full13 of labour; man14 cannot utter it: the eye15 is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. |
Ec 1:9 | they bring forth nothing new, and all old things are forgotten; |
Ec 1:9 | ¶ The thing that hath16 been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there17 is no new thing under the sun. |
Ec 1:10 | ¶ Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath18 been already of old time, which was before us. |
Ec 1:11 | There is19 no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after. |
Ec 1:12 | and because he has found it so in the studies of wisdom. |
Ec 1:12 Jerusalem | ¶20I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. |
Ec 1:13 REST-UNREST WISDOM-FOLLY | And I gave21 my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore22 travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised23 therewith. |
Ec 1:14 BUSINESS LIFE | 24I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. |
Ec 1:15 | That which is crooked25 cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting26 cannot be numbered. |
Ec 1:16 KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE Jerusalem | I communed27 with mine own heart, saying, Lo,28 I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of29 wisdom and knowledge. |
Ec 1:17 | And I gave30 my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived31 that this also is vexation of spirit. |
Ec 1:18 KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE | For in32 much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. |
