¶ Whoso loveth¹ instruction loveth knowledge: but he that² hateth reproof is brutish.

¶ A good³ man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man⁴ of wicked devices will he condemn.

¶ A man shall not be established⁵ by wickedness: but the root⁶ of the righteous shall not be moved.

¶ A virtuous⁷ woman is a crown to her husband: but she⁸ that maketh ashamed is as⁹ rottenness in his bones.

¶ The thoughts¹⁰ of the righteous are right: but the counsels¹¹ of the wicked are deceit.

¶ The words¹² of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth¹³ of the upright shall deliver them.

¶ The wicked¹⁴ are overthrown, and are not: but the house¹⁵ of the righteous shall stand.

¶ A man shall be commended¹⁶ according to his wisdom: but he¹⁷ that is of a perverse heart¹⁸ shall be despised.

¶ He that is¹⁹ despised²⁰, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

¶ A righteous²¹ man regardeth the life of his beast: but²² the tender mercies²³ of the wicked are cruel.

¶ He that tilleth²⁴ his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth²⁵ vain persons is void of understanding.

¶ The wicked desireth²⁶ the net²⁷ of evil men: but the root²⁸ of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

¶ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips²⁹: but³⁰ the just shall come out of trouble.

¶ A man shall be satisfied³¹ with good by the fruit of his mouth: and³² the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

¶ The way³³ of a fool is right in his own eyes: but³⁴ he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

¶ A fool's³⁵ wrath is presently³⁶ known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

¶ He that³⁷ speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but³⁸ a false witness deceit.

¶ There is that³⁹ speaketh like⁴⁰ the piercings of a sword: but⁴¹ the tongue of the wise is health.

¶ The lip⁴² of truth shall be established for ever: but⁴³ a lying tongue is but for a moment.

¶ Deceit⁴⁴ is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but⁴⁵ to the counsellors of peace is joy.

¶ There shall no⁴⁶ evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled⁴⁷ with mischief.

¶ Lying⁴⁸ lips are abomination to the LORD: but⁴⁹ they that deal truly are his delight.

¶ A prudent⁵⁰ man concealeth knowledge: but⁵¹ the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

¶ The hand⁵² of the diligent shall bear rule: but⁵³ the slothful⁵⁴ shall be under tribute.

¶ Heaviness⁵⁵ in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but⁵⁶ a good word maketh it glad.

¶ The righteous⁵⁷ is more excellent⁵⁸ than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

¶ The slothful⁵⁹ man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but⁶⁰ the substance of a diligent man is precious.

¶⁶¹In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
