Isa 44:1 | ¶ Yet now1 hear, O Jacob2 my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: |
Isa 44:2 JESHURUN | Thus saith the LORD that made3 thee, and formed4 thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear5 not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun7, whom I have chosen. |
Isa 44:3 DESIRE-SATISFACTION | For I will pour water9 upon him that is thirsty, and floods10 upon the dry ground11: I will pour my13 spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: |
Isa 44:4 TREES | And they shall spring14 up as among the grass, as willows15 by the water courses. |
Isa 44:5 | One shall say, I am16 the LORD'S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe17 with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name18 of Israel. |
Isa 44:6 ONE GOD | Thus saith the LORD the King19 of Israel, and his redeemer20 the LORD of hosts; I am the first21, and I am the last; and beside22 me there is no God. |

Isa 44:7 | And who,23 as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since24 I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. |
Isa 44:8 | Fear ye not, neither25 be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared26 it? ye are27 even my witnesses. Is there28 a God beside me? yea, there is no God29; I know not any. |
Isa 44:9 | and folly of idol makers. |
Isa 44:9 PROFIT AND LOSS | ¶ They that make30 a graven image are all of them vanity; and their31 delectable32 things shall not profit; and they are their own33 witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. |
Isa 44:10 FALSE WORSHIP | ¶34Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? |
Isa 44:11 HONOUR-DISHONOUR | Behold, all his35 fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all36 be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. |
Isa 44:12 ARTS AND CRAFTS | The smith37 with the tongs38 both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint. |
Isa 44:13 ARTS AND CRAFTS | The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh39 it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may40 remain in the house. |
Isa 44:14 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE FORESTS TREES TREES | He heweth41 him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth42 for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. |
Isa 44:15 ARTS AND CRAFTS | Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god43, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. |
Isa 44:16 | He burneth part thereof44 in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire45: |
Isa 44:17 | And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me;46 for thou art my god. |
Isa 44:18 | They have not47 known nor understood: for he hath48 shut49 their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. |
Isa 44:19 DISCERNMENT-DULLNESS DISCERNMENT-DULLNESS | And none considereth in his heart50, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination51? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree52? |
Isa 44:20 CONTENT-DISCONTENT FOOD, PHYSICAL-SPIRITUAL SELF-DECEPTION | ¶ He feedeth53 on ashes: a deceived54 heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there55 not a lie in my right hand? |
Isa 44:21 | He exhorts to praise God for his redemption and omnipotency. |
Isa 44:21 FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS | ¶ Remember56 these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art57 my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt58 not be forgotten of me. |
Isa 44:22 SALVATION-CONDEMNATION | I have blotted59 out, as a thick60 cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return61 unto me; for I have redeemed thee. |
Isa 44:23 NATURE'S PRAISE | Sing62, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified63 himself in Israel. |
Isa 44:24 REDEEMER, THE LORD OUR | Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer64, and he65 that formed thee from the womb, I am66 the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself67; |
Isa 44:25 KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE RIGHTEOUS-WICKED SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD TRUTH-FALSEHOOD | That frustrateth68 the tokens of the liars, and maketh69 diviners mad; that turneth70 wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; |
Isa 44:26 WASTE PLACES, RESTORED Jerusalem | That confirmeth71 the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith72 to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will73 raise up the decayed places74 thereof: |
Isa 44:27 | That saith to the deep, Be dry75, and I will dry up thy rivers: |
Isa 44:28 CYRUS Jerusalem | That saith of Cyrus76, He is my shepherd77, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying78 to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. |
