¶ And there shall¹ come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse², and a Branch³ shall grow out of his roots:

And the spirit⁴ of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom⁵ and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

And shall make him⁶ of quick understanding⁷ in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not⁸ judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

But with⁹ righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove¹⁰ with equity for the meek¹¹ of the earth: and he shall¹² smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath¹³ of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

And righteousness¹⁴ shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness¹⁵ the girdle of his reins.

¹⁶The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

And the cow¹⁷ and the bear shall feed¹⁸; their young ones¹⁹ shall lie down together: and the lion²⁰ shall eat straw like the ox²¹.

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice²²' den.

They shall not hurt²³ nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the²⁴ earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

¶ And in that day²⁵ there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall²⁶ stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall²⁷ the Gentiles seek: and his rest²⁸ shall be glorious²⁹.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand³⁰ again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria³¹, and from Egypt³², and from Pathros³³, and from Cush³⁴, and from Elam³⁵, and from Shinar³⁶, and from Hamath³⁷, and from the islands³⁸ of the sea.

And he shall set up³⁹ an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble⁴⁰ the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners⁴¹ of the earth.

The envy⁴² also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines⁴³ toward⁴⁴ the west; they shall spoil⁴⁵ them of the east⁴⁶ together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.

And the LORD shall utterly⁴⁷ destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty⁴⁸ wind shall he shake⁴⁹ his hand over the river, and shall smite⁵⁰ it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod⁵¹.

And there shall⁵² be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was⁵³ to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
