Re 18:1 | Babylon is fallen. |
Re 18:1 | ¶ And after these things I saw1 another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the2 earth was lightened with his glory. |
Re 18:2 BABYLON Babylon | And he cried3 mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon4 the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become5 the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. |
Re 18:3 | For all6 nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants7 of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance8 of her delicacies9. |
Re 18:4 | People commanded to depart out of her. |
Re 18:4 PARTAKERS OF EVIL | And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come10 out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers11 of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. |
Re 18:5 | For her sins have reached12 unto heaven, and13 God hath remembered her iniquities. |
Re 18:6 | Reward14 her even as she rewarded you, and double unto15 her double according to her works: in the cup16 which she hath filled fill to her double. |
Re 18:7 | How much she17 hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit18 a queen, and am no widow19, and shall see no sorrow. |
Re 18:8 ABUNDANCE-WANT FUTURE, THE | Therefore shall her20 plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she21 shall be utterly burned with fire: for22 strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. |
Re 18:9 | The kings of the earth, with the merchants and mariners, lament over her. |
Re 18:9 | ¶ And the kings23 of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail24 her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke25 of her burning, |
Re 18:10 TORMENT Babylon | ¶ Standing afar26 off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas27, alas, that great28 city Babylon, that mighty city! for29 in one hour is thy judgment come. |
Re 18:11 BUSINESS LIFE | And the merchants30 of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth31 their merchandise any more: |
Re 18:12 BUSINESS LIFE IVORY MARBLE PEARLS PRECIOUS STONES | The merchandise32 of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine33 wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, |
Re 18:13 CINNAMON TRAFFIC IN MEN | And cinnamon34, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves35, and souls36 of men. |
Re 18:14 EMPTINESS-FULNESS | And the fruits that thy soul37 lusted after are departed38 from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all. |
Re 18:15 | The merchants of these things, which39 were made rich by her, shall40 stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, |
Re 18:16 | And saying, Alas41, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! |
Re 18:17 POVERTY-RICHES | For in one42 hour so great riches is come to nought. And every43 shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, |
Re 18:18 | And cried when44 they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What45 city is like unto this great city! |
Re 18:19 DUST | And they cast46 dust on their heads, and cried, weeping47 and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for48 in one hour is she made desolate. |
Re 18:20 | The saints rejoice for the judgments of God upon her. |
Re 18:20 | ¶ Rejoice49 over her, thou heaven, and ye50 holy apostles and prophets; for God51 hath avenged you on her. |
Re 18:21 DESTRUCTION OF THE WICKED MILLSTONES Babylon | And a mighty52 angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus53 with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall54 be found no more at all. |
Re 18:22 ARTS AND CRAFTS | And the voice55 of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; |
Re 18:23 ISRAEL-THE JEWS MAGIC TRUTH-FALSEHOOD | And the light56 of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice57 of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants58 were the great men of the earth; for59 by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. |
Re 18:24 | And in her60 was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were61 slain upon the earth. |
