M't 22:1 | The parable of the marriage of the king's son. |
M't 22:1 | ¶1And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, |
M't 22:2 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, SIMILITUDES OF MARRIAGE SOCIAL LIFE | The kingdom2 of heaven is like unto a certain king, which3 made a marriage for his son, |
M't 22:3 INVITATIONS-WARNINGS INVITATIONS-WARNINGS LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | And sent4 forth his servants to call them that5 were bidden to the wedding: and they would not6 come. |
M't 22:4 BUSINESS LIFE FOOD, PHYSICAL-SPIRITUAL INVITATIONS-WARNINGS PROVIDENCE DIVINE | Again, he sent forth other7 servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold8, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all9 things are ready: come unto the marriage. |
M't 22:5 BUSINESS LIFE EARNESTNESS-INDIFFERENCE | But they10 made light of it, and went their ways, one11 to his farm, another to his merchandise: |
M't 22:6 | And the remnant12 took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. |
M't 22:7 | But when the king heard thereof, he was13 wroth: and he sent forth his14 armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. |
M't 22:8 UNWORTHINESS | Then saith he to his servants, The wedding15 is ready, but16 they which were bidden were not worthy. |
M't 22:9 | The vocation of the Gentiles. |
M't 22:9 INVITATIONS-WARNINGS | 17Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. |
M't 22:10 MIXED MULTITUDE | ¶ So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both18 bad and good: and the19 wedding was furnished with guests. |
M't 22:11 ADORNING, PHYSICAL-SPIRITUAL UNCLOTHED, FIGURATIVE | And when20 the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which21 had not on a wedding garment: |
M't 22:12 | The punishment of him that wanted the wedding garment. |
M't 22:12 | And he saith unto him, Friend22, how23 camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was24 speechless. |
M't 22:13 FELLOWSHIP-ESTRANGEMENT FUTURE STATE OF THE WICKED LIGHT-DARKNESS | Then said the king to the servants, Bind25 him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer26 darkness; there27 shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. |
M't 22:14 FEW SAVED | 28For many are called, but few are chosen. |
M't 22:15 | Tribute ought to be paid to Caesar. |
M't 22:15 SNARES LAID BY THE WICKED | ¶ Then went29 the Pharisees, and took counsel how30 they might entangle him in his talk. |
M't 22:16 IRONY SECTS AND PARTIES, JEWISH | And they sent31 out unto him their disciples with the Herodians32, saying, Master33, we know34 that thou art true35, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither36 carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. |
M't 22:17 NATION, THE QUESTIONS | Tell us therefore, What37 thinkest thou? Is38 it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar39, or not? |
M't 22:18 KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE RELIGION, TRUE-FALSE | But Jesus perceived40 their wickedness, and said, Why41 tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? |
M't 22:19 MONEY | Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny42. |
M't 22:20 | ¶ And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription43? |
M't 22:21 NATION, THE | They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render44 therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's45; and46 unto God the things that are God's. |
M't 22:22 ASTONISHMENT | When they had heard these words, they marvelled47, and left him, and went their way. |
M't 22:23 | Christ confutes the Sadducees for the resurrection; |
M't 22:23 FAITH-UNBELIEF SECTS AND PARTIES, JEWISH | ¶ The same48 day came to him the Sadducees49, which50 say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, |
M't 22:24 MARRIAGE QUESTIONS | Saying, Master51, Moses52 said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. |
M't 22:25 | 53Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: |
M't 22:26 | Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh54. |
M't 22:27 | And last of all the woman died also. |
M't 22:28 | Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. |
M't 22:29 BIBLE, THE; THE WORD OF GOD SCRIPTURES SCRIPTURE WRESTED | Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not55 knowing the scriptures, nor56 the power of God. |
M't 22:30 | ¶ For in the57 resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as58 the angels of God in heaven. |
M't 22:31 | But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have59 ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, |
M't 22:32 | I am60 the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is61 not the God of the dead, but of the living. |
M't 22:33 ASTONISHMENT | And when the multitude heard this, they62 were astonished at his doctrine. |
M't 22:34 | answers the lawyer, which is the first and great commandment; |
M't 22:34 SECTS AND PARTIES, JEWISH SILENCE-SPEECH | ¶ But when63 the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they64 were gathered together. |
M't 22:35 | Then one of them, which was a lawyer65, asked him a question, tempting66 him, and saying, |
M't 22:36 QUESTIONS | 67Master, which is the great commandment in the law? |
M't 22:37 EARNESTNESS-INDIFFERENCE LOVE-HATRED | 68Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. |
M't 22:38 BIBLE, THE; THE WORD OF GOD | This is the first and great commandment. |
M't 22:39 LOVE-HATRED | And the second is like unto it, Thou69 shalt love thy neighbour70 as thyself. |
M't 22:40 | ¶71On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. |
M't 22:41 | and puzzles the Pharisees by a question about the Messias. |
M't 22:41 | ¶72While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, |
M't 22:42 | Saying, What73 think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son74 of David. |
M't 22:43 | He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, |
M't 22:44 FOOTSTOOL | The LORD76 said unto my Lord77, Sit thou on my right hand, till78 I make thine enemies thy footstool? |
M't 22:45 | If David then call him Lord, how79 is he his son? |
M't 22:46 | And no80 man was able to answer him a word, neither81 durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions. |
