M't 20:1 | Christ, by the similitude of the labourers in the vineyard, shows that God is debtor unto no man; |
M't 20:1 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, SIMILITUDES OF VINEYARD, MORAL | ¶ For the kingdom1 of heaven is like unto a man2 that is an householder, which went out early3 in the morning to hire labourers4 into his vineyard. |
M't 20:2 | And when he had5 agreed with the labourers for a penny6 a day, he sent7 them into his vineyard. |
M't 20:3 HOUR OF THE DAY, THIRD MARKETPLACES | And he went out about the third8 hour, and saw others standing9 idle in the marketplace, |
M't 20:4 | And said unto them; Go10 ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever11 is right I will give you. And they went their way. |
M't 20:5 HOUR OF THE DAY, NINTH HOUR OF THE DAY, SIXTH | Again he went out about the sixth12 and ninth hour, and did13 likewise. |
M't 20:6 HOUR OF THE DAY, ELEVENTH | And about the eleventh14 hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why15 stand ye here all the day idle? |
M't 20:7 | They say unto him, Because16 no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go17 ye also into the vineyard; and18 whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. |
M't 20:8 WORK AND WORKERS, RELIGIOUS | So when19 even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto20 his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. |
M't 20:9 | And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received21 every man a penny. |
M't 20:10 | ¶ But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. |
M't 20:11 BUSINESS LIFE | And when they had received it, they murmured22 against the goodman of the house, |
M't 20:12 BUSINESS LIFE JEALOUSY JUSTICE-INJUSTICE | Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and23 thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the24 burden and heat of the day. |
M't 20:13 | But he answered one of them, and said, Friend25, I do26 thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? |
M't 20:14 JUSTICE-INJUSTICE | Take that thine27 is, and go thy way: I will28 give unto this last, even as unto thee. |
M't 20:15 | Is it not29 lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye30 evil, because I31 am good? |
M't 20:16 | So the last32 shall be first, and the first last: for33 many be called, but few chosen. |
M't 20:17 | foretells his passion; |
M't 20:17 ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION Jerusalem | ¶ And Jesus34 going up to Jerusalem took35 the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, |
M't 20:18 SCRIBES Jerusalem | Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the36 Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they37 shall condemn him to death, |
M't 20:19 MORTALITY-IMMORTALITY | And shall deliver38 him to the Gentiles to mock39, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third40 day he shall rise again. |
M't 20:20 | by answering the mother of Zebedee's children, teaches his disciples to be lowly; |
M't 20:20 REVERENCE-IRREVERENCE | ¶ Then came41 to him the mother42 of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. |
M't 20:21 HOME PRAYER SELF-ABASEMENT-SELF-EXALTATION | And he said unto her, What44 wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant45 that these my two sons may sit, the one46 on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy47 kingdom. |
M't 20:22 BLESSINGS-AFFLICTIONS SECURITY-INSECURITY | But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not48 what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup49 that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the50 baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We51 are able. |
M't 20:23 | And he saith unto them, Ye52 shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit53 on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for54 whom it is prepared of my Father. |
M't 20:24 | And when the ten heard it, they55 were moved with indignation against the two brethren. |
M't 20:25 | But Jesus called56 them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes57 of the Gentiles exercise dominion58 over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. |
M't 20:26 HONOUR-DISHONOUR LEADERS, RELIGIOUS LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | But it59 shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister60; |
M't 20:27 | And whosoever61 will be chief among you, let him be your servant: |
M't 20:28 CHRIST JESUS CHRIST'S DIVINITY-HUMANITY RANSOM, CHRIST AS WORK AND WORKERS, RELIGIOUS | Even as the Son of man came62 not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to63 give his life a ransom for64 many. |
M't 20:29 | and gives two blind men their sight. |
M't 20:29 JERICHO Jericho | ¶65And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. |
M't 20:30 CRYING TO JESUS HEALTH-DISEASE MIRACLES | ¶ And, behold, two66 blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have67 mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. |
M't 20:31 | And the multitude rebuked68 them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried69 the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. |
M't 20:32 | And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What70 will ye that I shall do unto you? |
M't 20:33 | They say unto him, Lord71, that our eyes may be opened. |
M't 20:34 ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION IMMEDIATE CURES SYMPATHY-PITILESSNESS | So Jesus72 had compassion on them, and touched73 their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they74 followed him. |
