Lu 13:1 GALILAEANS PILATE, PONTIUS | ¶ There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose1 blood Pilate had mingled with2 their sacrifices. |
Lu 13:2 PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE REQUIREMENTS, DIVINE | And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose3 ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? |
Lu 13:3 PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE REQUIREMENTS, DIVINE | I tell you, Nay: but, except4 ye repent, ye shall5 all likewise perish. |
Lu 13:4 SILOAM OR SILOAH TOWERS Jerusalem Siloam | Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam6 fell7, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners8 above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? |
Lu 13:5 | I tell you, Nay: but, except9 ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. |
Lu 13:6 | The fruitless fig-tree may not stand. |
Lu 13:6 FRUITFULNESS-UNFRUITFULNESS TREES | ¶ He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came11 and sought fruit thereon, and found none. |
Lu 13:7 SIN-SAVIOUR TEST, FRUIT | Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three12 years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut13 it down; why14 cumbereth it the ground? |
Lu 13:8 PROBATION, MAN'S EARTHLY LIFE A SIN-SAVIOUR | And he answering said unto him, Lord, let15 it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: |
Lu 13:9 RESULTS DEMANDED SIN-SAVIOUR | And if it bear fruit, well: and if not16, then after that thou shalt cut it down. |
Lu 13:10 | He heals the crooked woman; |
Lu 13:10 | ¶17And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. |
Lu 13:11 HEALTH-DISEASE MIRACLES WEAKNESS-POWER | And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit18 of infirmity eighteen19 years, and was bowed20 together, and could in no wise lift up herself. |
Lu 13:12 | And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman21, thou art loosed22 from thine infirmity. |
Lu 13:13 HANDS, LAYING ON OF HEALTH-DISEASE | And he laid23 his hands on her: and immediately24 she was made straight, and glorified God. |
Lu 13:14 RELIGION, TRUE-FALSE | And the ruler25 of the synagogue answered with26 indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There27 are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not28 on the sabbath day. |
Lu 13:15 ANIMALS RELIGION, TRUE-FALSE | The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite29, doth not30 each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? |
Lu 13:16 SATAN-EVIL SPIRITS | And ought not this woman, being31 a daughter of Abraham, whom32 Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed33 from this bond on the sabbath day? |
Lu 13:17 | And when he had said these things, all his34 adversaries were ashamed: and all35 the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. |
Lu 13:18 | shows the powerful working of the word in the hearts of his chosen, by the parable of the grain of mustard seed, and of leaven; |
Lu 13:18 KINGDOM SIMILITUDES | ¶ Then said he, Unto36 what is the kingdom37 of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? |
Lu 13:19 MUSTARD SEED | It is like38 a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast39 into his garden; and it40 grew, and waxed a great tree; and the41 fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. |
Lu 13:20 | ¶ And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? |
Lu 13:21 LEAVEN | It is like42 leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till43 the whole was leavened. |
Lu 13:22 | exhorts to enter in at the strait gate; |
Lu 13:22 Jerusalem | And he went through44 the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying45 toward Jerusalem. |
Lu 13:23 | ¶ Then said one unto him, Lord, are46 there few that be saved? And47 he said unto them, |
Lu 13:24 EARNESTNESS-INDIFFERENCE EARNESTNESS-INDIFFERENCE FEW SAVED | Strive48 to enter in at the strait49 gate: for50 many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. |
Lu 13:25 HASTE-DELAY | When once51 the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut52 to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord53, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know54 you not whence ye are: |
Lu 13:26 | Then shall ye begin to say, We55 have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. |
Lu 13:27 DISOWNMENT BY CHRIST DISOWNMENT BY CHRIST RIGHTEOUS-WICKED | But he shall say, I tell56 you, I know you not whence ye are; depart57 from me, all ye workers of iniquity. |
Lu 13:28 ADMISSION-EXCLUSION | There shall be weeping58 and gnashing of teeth, when59 ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom60 of God, and you61 yourselves thrust out. |
Lu 13:29 FUTURE, THE NORTH | 62And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. |
Lu 13:30 | ¶63And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. |
Lu 13:31 | and reproves Herod and Jerusalem. |

Lu 13:33 CHRIST JESUS Jerusalem | Nevertheless I must68 walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for69 it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. |
Lu 13:34 EARNESTNESS-INDIFFERENCE HEN Jerusalem | O Jerusalem70, Jerusalem, which killest71 the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how72 often would I have gathered thy73 children together, as74 a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye75 would not! |
Lu 13:35 | Behold, your76 house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not77 see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed78 is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. |
