¶ Therefore¹ we ought to give the more² earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should³ let them slip⁴.

For if the word spoken⁵ by angels was stedfast, and every⁶ transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

How⁸ shall we escape, if we neglect so⁹ great salvation; which at the first began¹⁰ to be spoken by the Lord, and was¹¹ confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

God¹² also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts¹³ of the Holy Ghost, according¹⁴ to his own will?

¶ For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world¹⁵ to come, whereof we speak.

But one in¹⁶ a certain place testified, saying, What¹⁷ is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son¹⁹ of man, that thou visitest²⁰ him?

Thou madest²¹ him a little lower than²² the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

Thou hast²³ put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But²⁴ now we see not yet all things put under him.

But we see Jesus²⁵, who was made a little lower than the angels for the²⁶ suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by²⁷ the grace of God should taste²⁸ death for every²⁹ man.

¶ For it³⁰ became him, for³¹ whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many³² sons unto glory³³, to make the captain³⁴ of their salvation perfect³⁵ through sufferings.

For both he that³⁶ sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all³⁷ of one: for which cause he is³⁸ not ashamed to call³⁹ them brethren,

Saying, I will⁴⁰ declare thy name unto my brethren, in⁴¹ the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

And again, I will⁴² put my trust in him. And again, Behold⁴³ I and the children which⁴⁴ God hath given me.

¶ Forasmuch then as the children⁴⁵ are partakers of flesh⁴⁶ and blood, he also⁴⁷ himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy⁴⁹ him that had the power of death, that is, the devil⁵⁰;

And deliver⁵¹ them who through⁵² fear of death were all their lifetime subject⁵³ to bondage.

For verily⁵⁴ he took not⁵⁵ on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Wherefore in all things it⁵⁶ behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful⁵⁷ and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make⁵⁸ reconciliation for the sins of the people.

For in that he himself hath suffered⁵⁹ being tempted, he is⁶⁰ able to succour them⁶¹ that are tempted.
