¶ And when the day¹ of Pentecost was fully come, they² were all with one accord in one place.

And suddenly³ there came a sound from heaven as⁴ of a rushing mighty wind, and it⁵ filled all the house where they were sitting.

And there appeared unto them cloven⁶ tongues like⁷ as of fire, and it sat⁸ upon each of them.

And they were all filled⁹ with the Holy Ghost, and began¹⁰ to speak with other tongues, as¹¹ the Spirit gave them utterance.

¶ And there were¹² dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout¹³ men, out of every nation under¹⁴ heaven.

Now when this was noised abroad¹⁵, the multitude came together, and were confounded¹⁶, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

And they were all amazed¹⁷ and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are¹⁸ not all these which speak Galilaeans?

And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

Parthians, and Medes¹⁹, and Elamites²⁰, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia²¹, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia²², in Pontus²³, and Asia²⁴,

¶ Phrygia, and²⁵ Pamphylia, in²⁶ Egypt, and²⁷ in the parts of Libya about²⁸ Cyrene, and²⁹ strangers of³⁰ Rome, Jews and³¹ proselytes,

Cretes³² and Arabians³³, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful³⁴ works of God.

And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What³⁵ meaneth this?

Others mocking said, These men³⁶ are full of new wine.

¶ But Peter, standing up with³⁷ the eleven, lifted³⁸ up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men³⁹ of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken⁴⁰ to my words:

For these⁴¹ are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing⁴² it is but the third hour of the day.

But this is that which was spoken by the prophet⁴³ Joel;

And it shall come to pass in⁴⁴ the last days, saith God, I will⁴⁵ pour out of my Spirit upon all⁴⁶ flesh: and your sons⁴⁷ and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

And on my servants⁴⁸ and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they⁴⁹ shall prophesy:

⁵⁰And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

¶ The sun⁵¹ shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great⁵² and notable day of the Lord come:

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever⁵³ shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ye men⁵⁴ of Israel, hear these words; Jesus⁵⁵ of Nazareth, a man⁵⁶ approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which⁵⁷ God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

Him, being⁵⁸ delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have⁵⁹ taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

Whom God⁶⁰ hath raised up, having loosed⁶¹ the pains of death: because⁶² it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

For David⁶³ speaketh concerning him, I foresaw⁶⁴ the Lord always before my face, for⁶⁵ he is on my right hand, that I should not⁶⁶ be moved:

Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue⁶⁷ was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

Because thou wilt not leave⁶⁸ my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine⁶⁹ Holy One to see⁷⁰ corruption.

Thou hast made⁷¹ known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make⁷² me full of joy with thy countenance.

Men and brethren, let me⁷³ freely speak unto you of the patriarch⁷⁴ David⁷⁵, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

¶ Therefore being⁷⁶ a prophet, and knowing⁷⁷ that God had sworn with⁷⁸ an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he⁷⁹ would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

He seeing⁸⁰ this before spake⁸¹ of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof⁸² we all are witnesses.

Therefore being by⁸³ the right hand of God exalted, and having⁸⁴ received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he⁸⁵ hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD⁸⁶ said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Until I make thy foes⁸⁷ thy footstool.

Therefore let all⁸⁸ the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same⁸⁹ Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

¶ Now when they⁹⁰ heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men⁹¹ and brethren, what⁹² shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent⁹³, and be⁹⁴ baptized every one of you in⁹⁵ the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye⁹⁶ shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise⁹⁷ is unto you, and to your children, and to all⁹⁸ that are afar off, even as many⁹⁹ as the Lord our God shall call.

¶ And with¹⁰⁰ many other words did¹⁰¹ he testify and exhort, saying, Save¹⁰² yourselves from this untoward¹⁰³ generation.

Then they that gladly¹⁰⁴ received his word were baptized¹⁰⁵: and the same day there were added¹⁰⁶ unto them about three thousand souls.

¶ And they¹⁰⁷ continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship¹⁰⁸, and in breaking¹⁰⁹ of bread, and in prayers¹¹⁰.

And fear¹¹¹ came upon every soul: and many¹¹² wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

And all that believed were together, and had¹¹³ all things common;

And sold¹¹⁴ their possessions and goods, and parted¹¹⁵ them to all men, as every man had need.

And they, continuing daily¹¹⁶ with one accord in the temple, and breaking¹¹⁷ bread from house to house¹¹⁸, did¹¹⁹ eat their meat with gladness and singleness¹²⁰ of heart,

Praising God, and having¹²¹ favour with all the people. And the Lord¹²² added to the church daily such as should be saved.
