¶ Woe to her that is filthy¹ and polluted, to the² oppressing city!

She obeyed³ not the voice; she received⁴ not correction⁵; she trusted⁶ not in the LORD; she drew⁷ not near to her God.

Her princes⁸ within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening⁹ wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.

Her prophets are light¹⁰ and treacherous persons: her priests¹¹ have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.

The just¹² LORD is in¹³ the midst thereof; he will¹⁴ not do iniquity: every morning¹⁵ doth he bring¹⁶ his judgment to light, he faileth not; but¹⁷ the unjust knoweth no shame.

I have cut¹⁸ off the nations: their towers¹⁹ are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.

I said, Surely²⁰ thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so²¹ their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever²² I punished them: but they²³ rose early, and corrupted²⁴ all their doings.

¶ Therefore wait²⁵ ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise²⁶ up to the prey: for my determination is to gather²⁷ the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all²⁸ the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

For then will²⁹ I turn to the people a pure language³⁰, that³¹ they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent³².

¶³³From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering.

In that day shalt thou³⁴ not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice³⁵ in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy³⁶ mountain.

I will also leave³⁷ in the midst of thee an afflicted and³⁸ poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

The remnant³⁹ of Israel shall not⁴⁰ do iniquity, nor⁴¹ speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they⁴² shall feed and⁴³ lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

¶ Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout⁴⁴, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem⁴⁵.

The LORD hath taken⁴⁶ away thy judgments, he hath⁴⁷ cast out thine enemy: the king⁴⁸ of Israel, even the LORD, is in⁴⁹ the midst of thee: thou⁵⁰ shalt not see evil any more.

In that day it shall be said⁵¹ to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack⁵².

The LORD thy God in the⁵³ midst of thee is mighty⁵⁴; he will save, he will rejoice⁵⁵ over thee with joy; he will⁵⁶ rest⁵⁷ in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

I will gather⁵⁸ them that are sorrowful⁵⁹ for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden⁶⁰.

Behold, at that time I will undo⁶¹ all that afflict thee: and I will save⁶² her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will⁶³ get them praise⁶⁴ and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.

¶ At that time will I bring you again, even⁶⁵ in the time that I gather you: for⁶⁶ I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn⁶⁷ back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD.
