La 5:1 A pitiful complaint of Zion in prayer unto God. La 5:1 ¶ Remember1, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold2 our reproach. La 5:2 3Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens. La 5:3 4We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. La 5:4 We have5 drunken our water for money; our wood is sold6 unto us. La 5:5 •REST-UNREST •SUFFERING FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE Our necks are under persecution7: we labour8, and have no rest. La 5:6 Egypt Assyria We have given9 the hand to the Egyptians10, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. La 5:7 •HEREDITY •SIN-SAVIOUR Our fathers11 have sinned, and are12 not; and we have borne their iniquities. La 5:8 Servants13 have ruled over us: there14 is none that doth deliver us out of their hand. La 5:9 15We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness. La 5:10 •OVENS ¶ Our skin16 was black like an oven because of the terrible famine17. La 5:11 Zion 18They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah. La 5:12 •YOUNG PEOPLE 19Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured. La 5:13 They took the young20 men to grind, and the children fell21 under the wood. La 5:14 The elders22 have ceased from the gate, the young23 men from their musick. La 5:15 •ISRAEL-THE JEWS The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance24 is turned into mourning. La 5:16 The crown25 is fallen from our head26: woe unto us, that we have sinned! La 5:17 ¶ For this our heart27 is faint; for these things our eyes28 are dim. La 5:18 •DESOLATION Mount Zion Because of the29 mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes30 walk upon it. La 5:19 •MUTABILITY-IMMUTABILITY Thou, O LORD, remainest31 for ever; thy throne32 from generation to generation. La 5:20 ¶ Wherefore dost33 thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time34? La 5:21 Turn35 thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew36 our days as of old. La 5:22 But thou hast utterly rejected us;37 thou art very wroth against us.
