Jer 47:1 The destruction of the Philistines. Jer 47:1 •JEREMIAH Gaza ¶ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza2. Jer 47:2 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters3 rise up out of4 the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein5; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the6 men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl. Jer 47:3 At the noise7 of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers8 shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands; Jer 47:4 Tyre Sidon Caphtor Because of the day9 that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus10 and Zidon every11 helper that remaineth: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant12 of the country13 of Caphtor14. Jer 47:5 Gaza Ashkelon Baldness17 is come upon Gaza18; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant19 of their valley: how20 long wilt thou cut thyself? Jer 47:6 •SWORD OF THE LORD O thou sword21 of the LORD, how long22 will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself23 into thy scabbard, rest, and be still. Jer 47:7 Ashkelon How can it24 be quiet, seeing the LORD hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea25 shore? there hath he26 appointed it.
