Jer 31:1 | ¶ At the same1 time, saith the LORD, will2 I be the God of3 all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. |
Jer 31:2 | Thus saith the LORD, The people4 which were left of the sword found5 grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when6 I went to cause him to rest. |
Jer 31:3 ATTRACTION, DIVINE LOVE-HATRED LOVINGKINDNESS | The LORD hath appeared of old7 unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an8 everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn9 thee. |
Jer 31:4 DANCING | Again I will build10 thee, and thou shalt be built, O11 virgin of Israel: thou shalt again12 be adorned with thy tabrets13, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry. |
Jer 31:5 Samaria | Thou shalt yet14 plant vines upon the mountains15 of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat16 them as common things. |
Jer 31:6 WATCHMEN WORSHIP, TRUE AND FALSE Zion | For there shall be a day17, that the watchmen upon18 the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise19 ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God. |
Jer 31:7 ISRAEL-THE JEWS | For thus saith the LORD; Sing20 with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O21 LORD, save thy people, the remnant22 of Israel. |
Jer 31:8 | Behold, I23 will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts24 of the earth, and with them the25 blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither. |
Jer 31:9 PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE | They shall come26 with weeping, and with supplications27 will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a28 straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I29 am a father to Israel, and Ephraim30 is my firstborn. |
Jer 31:10 | The publication thereof. |
Jer 31:10 | ¶ Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare31 it in the isles afar off, and say, He32 that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep33 him, as a shepherd doth his flock. |
Jer 31:11 | For the LORD hath redeemed34 Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger35 than he. |
Jer 31:12 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE JOY-SORROW Zion | Therefore36 they shall come and sing in the height37 of Zion, and shall38 flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat39, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their40 soul shall be as a watered garden; and they41 shall not sorrow any more at all. |
Jer 31:13 JOY-SORROW | Then shall42 the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for43 I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. |
Jer 31:14 DESIRE-SATISFACTION | And I will satiate44 the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people45 shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD. |
Jer 31:15 | Rahel mourning is comforted. |
Jer 31:15 JOY-SORROW MOTHERHOOD, CARES OF RACHEL Ramah 1 | Thus saith the LORD; A46 voice was heard in Ramah47, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused49 to be comforted for her children, because50 they were not. |
Jer 31:16 REWARD-PUNISHMENT | Thus saith the LORD; Refrain51 thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for52 thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they53 shall come again from the land of the enemy. |
Jer 31:17 | 54And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border. |
Jer 31:18 | Ephraim repenting is brought home again. |
Jer 31:18 | ¶ I have surely55 heard Ephraim56 bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast57 chastised me, and I was chastised, as a58 bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn59 thou me, and I shall be turned; for60 thou art the LORD my God. |
Jer 31:19 | Surely after61 that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote62 upon my thigh: I was ashamed63, yea, even confounded, because I did64 bear the reproach of my youth. |
Jer 31:20 | ¶ Is Ephraim65 my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for66 since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my bowels67 are troubled68 for him; I will69 surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD. |
Jer 31:21 HELPS-HINDRANCES | Set thee70 up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine71 heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn72 again, O73 virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities. |
Jer 31:22 | Christ is promised. |
Jer 31:22 | How74 long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding75 daughter? for the LORD hath created76 a new thing in the earth, A woman77 shall compass a man. |
Jer 31:23 | Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As78 yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD79 bless thee, O80 habitation of justice, and mountain81 of holiness. |
Jer 31:24 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE | 82And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all the cities thereof together, husbandmen, and they that go forth with flocks. |
Jer 31:25 | 83For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. |
Jer 31:26 SLEEP-WAKEFULNESS | 84Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me. |
Jer 31:27 | His care over the church. |
Jer 31:27 | ¶ Behold, the days85 come, saith the LORD, that I86 will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. |
Jer 31:28 | And it shall come to pass, that like87 as I have watched over them, to pluck88 up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so89 will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the LORD. |
Jer 31:29 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE | 90In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge. |
Jer 31:30 STEWARDSHIP-OWNERSHIP | ¶91But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge. |
Jer 31:31 | His new covenant. |
Jer 31:31 COVENANTS AND VOWS | Behold, the days92 come, saith the LORD, that I93 will make a new covenant with94 the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: |
Jer 31:32 Egypt | Not95 according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the96 day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which97 my covenant they brake, although I was98 an husband unto them, saith the LORD: |
Jer 31:33 BIBLE, THE; THE WORD OF GOD WRITING | But this shall be the99 covenant that I will100 make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will101 be their God, and they shall be my people. |
Jer 31:34 KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE SALVATION-CONDEMNATION | And they shall teach102 no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the103 LORD: for they104 shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I105 will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. |

Jer 31:35 | ¶ Thus saith the LORD, which giveth106 the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth107 the sea when108 the waves thereof roar; The LORD109 of hosts is his name: |
Jer 31:36 | If those110 ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease111 from being a nation before me for ever. |
Jer 31:37 | Thus saith the LORD; If112 heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I113 will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD. |

Jer 31:38 Corner Gate Tower of Hananel | Behold, the days114 come, saith the LORD, that115 the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower116 of Hananeel unto the gate117 of the corner. |
Jer 31:39 MEASURING ROD OR LINE Gareb Goah | 118And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath. |
Jer 31:40 KIDRON OR CEDRON Kidron Horse Gate | ¶ And the whole119 valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook120 of Kidron, unto122 the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be123 holy unto the LORD; it shall124 not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever. |
