Jer 28:1 HANANIAH NEBUCHADNEZZAR OR NEBUCHADREZZAR Gibeon | ¶ And it came to pass the same1 year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah2 the son of Azur the prophet3, which was of Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying, |
Jer 28:2 Babylon | Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I4 have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. |
Jer 28:3 VESSEL'S HOLY Babylon | Within two full years5 will I bring again into this place all the6 vessels of the LORD'S house, that7 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon: |
Jer 28:4 JEHOIACHIN, CONIAH, OR JECONIAH Babylon | And I will bring8 again to this place Jeconiah9 the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the LORD: for I will break12 the yoke of the king of Babylon. |
Jer 28:5 | Jeremiah, wishing it to be true, shews that the event will declare the true prophets. |
Jer 28:5 JEREMIAH | Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house13 of the LORD, |
Jer 28:6 Babylon | Even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen14: the LORD do so: the LORD perform15 thy words which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD'S house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place. |
Jer 28:7 | 16Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people; |
Jer 28:8 PROPHECY | The prophets17 that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied18 both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence. |
Jer 28:9 | The prophet which19 prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then20 shall the prophet be known, that the LORD hath truly sent him. |
Jer 28:10 | Hananiah breaks Jeremiah's yoke. |
Jer 28:10 | ¶ Then Hananiah the prophet took21 the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and brake it. |
Jer 28:11 Babylon | And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus22 saith the LORD; Even23 so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way. |
Jer 28:12 | Jeremiah tells of an iron yoke; |
Jer 28:12 | 24Then the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the prophet, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying, |
Jer 28:13 | Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast25 broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt26 make for them yokes of iron. |
Jer 28:14 Babylon | For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put27 a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they28 may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I29 have given him the beasts of the field also. |
Jer 28:15 | and foretells Hananiah's death. |
Jer 28:15 | Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD30 hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie. |
Jer 28:16 | Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will31 cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year32 thou shalt die, because33 thou hast taught rebellion34 against the LORD. |
Jer 28:17 LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | So Hananiah35 the prophet died the same year in the seventh month36. |
