Jer 25:1 JEHOIAKIM OR ELIAKIM NEBUCHADNEZZAR OR NEBUCHADREZZAR Babylon | ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the1 fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first2 year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; |
Jer 25:2 JEREMIAH Jerusalem | 3The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, |
Jer 25:3 | From the thirteenth4 year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising5 early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. |
Jer 25:4 LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | And the LORD hath sent unto you all6 his servants the prophets, rising7 early and sending them; but ye8 have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear. |
Jer 25:5 PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE | They said, Turn9 ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for10 ever and ever: |
Jer 25:6 | 11And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. |
Jer 25:7 | Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye12 might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt. |
Jer 25:8 | foretells the seventy years' captivity; |
Jer 25:8 | ¶ Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts13; Because ye have not heard my words, |
Jer 25:9 DESTRUCTION OF THE WICKED WAR-PEACE Babylon | Behold, I14 will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar15 the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against16 this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment17, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations. |
Jer 25:10 ISRAEL-THE JEWS MILLSTONES | ¶ Moreover I will take from18 them the voice of mirth19, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound20 of the millstones, and the light of the candle. |
Jer 25:11 PERIODS AND NUMBERS Babylon | And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy21 years. |
Jer 25:12 | and after that, the destruction of Babylon. |
Jer 25:12 BABYLON DESOLATION Babylon | And it shall come to pass, when22 seventy years are accomplished, that I23 will punish24 the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual25 desolations. |
Jer 25:13 | And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath26 prophesied against all the nations. |
Jer 25:14 | For many27 nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I28 will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands. |
Jer 25:15 | Under the type of a cup of wine he foreshews the destruction of all nations. |
Jer 25:15 WRATH-ANGER | ¶ For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take29 the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all30 the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. |
Jer 25:16 | 31And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. |
Jer 25:17 | Then took I the cup at the LORD'S hand, and made32 all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me: |
Jer 25:18 JERUSALEM Jerusalem | To wit, Jerusalem33, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make34 them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it35 is this day; |
Jer 25:19 Egypt | Pharaoh36 king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; |
Jer 25:20 ASHDOD OR AZOTUS ASKELON EKRON UZ, LAND OF Uz Gaza Ashkelon Ekron Ashdod | ¶ And all the mingled37 people, and all the kings of the land of Uz38, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines39, and Ashkelon40, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, |
Jer 25:21 Edom Moab Ammon | Edom42, and Moab43, and the44 children of Ammon, |
Jer 25:22 Tyre Sidon | And all the kings of Tyrus45, and all the kings of Zidon46, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea47, |
Jer 25:23 Buz Dedan Tema | Dedan48, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners49, |
Jer 25:24 Arabia | And all the kings of Arabia50, and all the kings of the mingled51 people that dwell in the desert, |
Jer 25:25 ELAM Elam Zimri Media | And all the kings of Zimri52, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes54, |
Jer 25:26 Babylon | And all the kings55 of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the56 king of Sheshach shall drink57 after them. |
Jer 25:27 | Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink58 ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because59 of the sword which I will send among you. |
Jer 25:28 | And it shall be, if60 they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye61 shall certainly drink. |
Jer 25:29 | For, lo, I begin62 to bring evil on the city which is called by my name63, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall64 not be unpunished: for I will65 call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts. |
Jer 25:30 | ¶ Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar66 from on high, and utter his voice from his holy67 habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give68 a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. |
Jer 25:31 | A noise69 shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead70 with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD. |
Jer 25:32 METEOROLOGY | Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil71 shall go forth from nation to nation, and a72 great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. |
Jer 25:33 DEAD, THE RIGHTEOUS-WICKED | And the slain73 of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not74 be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be75 dung upon the ground. |
Jer 25:34 | The howling of the shepherds. |
Jer 25:34 | Howl76, ye shepherds77, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal78 of the flock: for the days of your79 slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall80 fall like a pleasant vessel81. |
Jer 25:35 | And the shepherds82 shall have no way to flee, nor83 the principal of the flock to escape. |
Jer 25:36 | 84A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture. |
Jer 25:37 | 85And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD. |
Jer 25:38 | He hath86 forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate87 because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger. |
