Jer 10:1 | ¶1Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: |
Jer 10:2 RELIGION, TRUE-FALSE | Thus saith the LORD, Learn2 not the way of the heathen, and be3 not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. |
Jer 10:3 FALSE WORSHIP FORESTS | For the customs4 of the people are vain: for one5 cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. |
Jer 10:4 HAMMERS | They deck6 it with silver and with gold; they fasten7 it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. |
Jer 10:5 FALSE WORSHIP FALSE WORSHIP TREES | They are upright as the palm tree, but speak8 not: they must needs be borne9, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil10, neither also is it in them to do good. |
Jer 10:6 | Forasmuch as there11 is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou12 art great, and thy name is great in might. |
Jer 10:7 WISDOM-FOLLY | Who would13 not fear thee, O King14 of nations? for to thee15 doth it appertain: forasmuch as among16 all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee. |
Jer 10:8 MIND, CARNAL-SPIRITUAL VANITIES, OF THE WICKED | But they are altogether17 brutish and foolish: the stock18 is a doctrine of vanities. |
Jer 10:9 PURPLE TARSHISH OR THARSHISH Uphaz Tarshish | Silver19 spread into plates is brought from Tarshish20, and gold from Uphaz21, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all22 the work of cunning men. |
Jer 10:10 WRATH-ANGER | ¶ But the LORD23 is the true God24, he is the living25 God, and an everlasting king26: at27 his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations28 shall not be able to abide his indignation. |
