Isa 33:1 | ¶ Woe to thee that1 spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease2 to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee. |
Isa 33:2 FAVOUR-DISFAVOUR PATIENCE-IMPATIENCE | O LORD, be gracious3 unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou4 their arm every morning, our salvation5 also in the time of trouble. |
Isa 33:3 | 6At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered. |
Isa 33:4 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE | And your spoil7 shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running8 to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them. |
Isa 33:5 EXALTATION-ABASEMENT NATION, THE Zion | The LORD9 is exalted; for he dwelleth10 on high: he hath11 filled Zion with judgment and righteousness. |
Isa 33:6 Zion's | And wisdom12 and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength13 of salvation14: the fear of the LORD is his treasure. |
Isa 33:7 | Behold, their valiant ones15 shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly. |
Isa 33:8 FAITHFULNESS-UNFAITHFULNESS | The highways16 lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken17 the covenant, he hath despised18 the cities, he regardeth19 no man. |
Isa 33:9 BASHAN MOUNTAINS AND HILLS SHARON Carmel Sharon 1 Bashan Lebanon | The earth20 mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon21 is ashamed and hewn down22: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan23 and Carmel shake off their fruits. |
Isa 33:10 | ¶ Now will I rise24, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted25; now will I lift26 up myself. |
Isa 33:11 | Ye shall conceive27 chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your28 breath, as fire, shall devour you. |
Isa 33:12 | And the people shall be as the burnings29 of lime: as thorns30 cut up shall they be burned in the fire. |
Isa 33:13 | The consternation of sinners, and privileges of the godly. |
Isa 33:13 | ¶ Hear31, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near32, acknowledge my might. |
Isa 33:14 COURAGE-FEAR FUTURE STATE OF THE WICKED Zion | The sinners33 in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites34. Who among us shall dwell with the35 devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting36 burnings? |
Isa 33:15 BLINDNESS-VISION EYES NATION, THE | He that walketh37 righteously38, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions39, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth40 his ears from hearing of blood41, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; |
Isa 33:16 EXALTATION-ABASEMENT SECURITY-INSECURITY | He shall dwell42 on high43: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread44 shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. |
Isa 33:17 BLINDNESS-VISION SEEING GOD | Thine eyes45 shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off46. |
Isa 33:18 | Thine heart47 shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe48? where is the receiver49? where is he50 that counted the towers? |
Isa 33:19 | Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper52 speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering53 tongue, that thou canst not understand. |
Isa 33:20 RESTORATION Jerusalem Zion | ¶ Look54 upon Zion, the city55 of our solemnities: thine eyes56 shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one57 of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. |
Isa 33:21 | But there the glorious58 LORD will be unto us a place59 of broad rivers and streams60; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. |
Isa 33:22 LAWGIVER TITLES AND NAMES | For the LORD is our judge61, the LORD is our lawgiver62, the LORD is our king63; he will64 save us. |
Isa 33:23 | Thy tacklings are loosed65; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then66 is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame67 take the prey. |
Isa 33:24 | And the inhabitant68 shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven69 their iniquity. |
