Isa 24:1 | The doleful judgments of God upon the land. |
Isa 24:1 | ¶ Behold, the LORD maketh the1 earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down2, and scattereth3 abroad the inhabitants thereof. |
Isa 24:2 | And it shall be, as with the people4, so with the priest5; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. |
Isa 24:3 | The land shall6 be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD7 hath spoken this word. |
Isa 24:4 HUMILITY-PRIDE MUTABILITY-IMMUTABILITY | The earth mourneth8 and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people9 of the earth do languish. |
Isa 24:5 CANAAN, LAND OF COVENANTS AND VOWS DEFILEMENT-CLEANSING FAITHFULNESS-UNFAITHFULNESS | The earth also is defiled10 under the inhabitants thereof; because11 they have transgressed the laws, changed12 the ordinance, broken13 the everlasting covenant. |
Isa 24:6 | Therefore hath14 the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few15 men left. |
Isa 24:7 | 16The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh. |
Isa 24:8 MUSIC | 17The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. |
Isa 24:9 | 18They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. |
Isa 24:10 | ¶ The city19 of confusion20 is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. |
Isa 24:11 DARK DAYS ISRAEL-THE JEWS | There is a crying21 for wine in the streets; all joy22 is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. |
Isa 24:12 DESOLATION | 23In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. |
Isa 24:13 | A remnant shall joyfully praise him. |
Isa 24:13 VINTAGE | ¶ When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there24 shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. |
Isa 24:14 | 25They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea. |
Isa 24:15 | Wherefore glorify26 ye the LORD in the fires27, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. |
Isa 24:16 | God in his judgments shall advance his kingdom. |
Isa 24:16 | ¶ From the uttermost part28 of the earth have we heard songs, even glory29 to the righteous. But30 I said, My leanness31, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously. |
Isa 24:17 COURAGE-FEAR | Fear, and the pit32, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. |
Isa 24:18 WINDOWS OF HEAVEN | And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth33 from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the34 windows from on high are open, and the foundations35 of the earth do shake. |
Isa 24:19 | 36The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. |
Isa 24:20 | ¶ The earth shall reel37 to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed38 like a cottage; and the transgression39 thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it40 shall fall, and not rise again. |
Isa 24:21 | And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD41 shall punish42 the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. |
Isa 24:22 | And they shall43 be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered44 in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited45. |
Isa 24:23 MOON Jerusalem Mount Zion | Then the moon46 shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when47 the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount48 Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously49. |
