¶ I will stand¹ upon my watch, and set me upon the tower², and will³ watch to see what he will say unto me,⁴ and what I shall answer when I am reproved⁵.

And the LORD answered me, and said, Write⁶ the vision, and make⁷ it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

For the vision⁸ is yet for an appointed time, but⁹ at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait¹⁰ for it; because it will surely¹¹ come, it will not tarry.

Behold, his¹² soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but¹³ the just shall live by his faith.

¶ Yea also,¹⁴ because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man¹⁵, neither keepeth¹⁶ at home, who¹⁷ enlargeth his desire as hell¹⁸, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth¹⁹ unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

Shall not all these take²⁰ up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him²¹ that increaseth that which is not his! how²² long? and to him that ladeth²³ himself with thick clay!

Shall they²⁴ not rise up suddenly that shall bite²⁵ thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

Because thou²⁶ hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood²⁷, and for the violence²⁸ of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness²⁹ to his house, that he may set³⁰ his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil³¹!

¶ Thou hast consulted³² shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned³³ against thy soul.

For the stone³⁴ shall cry out of the wall, and the beam³⁵ out of the timber shall answer it.

Woe to him³⁶ that buildeth a town with blood³⁷, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

Behold, is it³⁸ not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity³⁹?

For the earth⁴⁰ shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory⁴¹ of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

¶ Woe unto⁴² him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest⁴³ thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou⁴⁴ mayest look on their nakedness!

Thou art filled with shame for glory⁴⁵: drink⁴⁶ thou also, and let⁴⁷ thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup⁴⁸ of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful⁴⁹ spewing shall be on thy glory.

For the violence⁵⁰ of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because⁵¹ of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city⁵², and of all that dwell therein.

What profiteth⁵³ the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher⁵⁴ of lies, that the⁵⁵ maker of his work⁵⁶ trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

Woe unto him that⁵⁷ saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is⁵⁸ laid over with gold and silver, and there⁵⁹ is no breath at all in the midst of it.

¶ But the LORD⁶⁰ is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him⁶¹.
