Abram and Lot return with great riches out of Egypt.

And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south1.

2And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents7.

Strife arises between Abram's herdsmen and those of Lot.

8And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

And there was a strife9 between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite10 and the Perizzite dwelled11 then in the land.

Abram meekly refers it to Lot to choose his part of the country,

And Abram said unto Lot, Let12 there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren13.

Is not14 the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt15 take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

and Lot goes to Sodom.

God renews the promise to Abram.
Ge 13:14

And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was26 separated from him, Lift27 up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward28, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

Ge 13:15
CANAAN, LAND OF

29For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

Ge 13:16

30And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

Ge 13:17

Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

Ge 13:18
He removes to Hebron, and there builds an altar.
Ge 13:18

Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain31 of Mamre, which is in Hebron32, and built there an altar33 unto the LORD.
