De 31:1 | ¶ And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel. |
De 31:2 LONG LIFE Jordan | And he said unto them, I am an1 hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more2 go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not3 go over this Jordan. |
De 31:3 | The LORD thy God4, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua5, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said. |
De 31:4 | 7And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed. |
De 31:5 | And the LORD9 shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according10 unto all the commandments which I have commanded you. |
De 31:6 COURAGE-FEAR FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS | Be strong11 and of a good courage, fear not,12 nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail13 thee, nor forsake thee. |
De 31:7 | He encourages Joshua. |
De 31:7 JOSHUA, JEHOSHUA, OR OSHEA | And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong14 and of a good courage: for thou must15 go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. |
De 31:8 | And the LORD, he it is that16 doth go before thee; he will be17 with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. |
De 31:9 | He delivers the law unto the priests to be read in the seventh year to the people. |
De 31:9 | ¶ And Moses18 wrote this law, and delivered19 it unto the priests20 the sons of Levi, which bare21 the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel. |
De 31:10 SABBATIC YEAR | ¶22And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles, |
De 31:11 BIBLE, THE; THE WORD OF GOD | When all Israel is come to appear24 before the LORD thy God in the place25 which he shall choose, thou26 shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. |
De 31:12 SOCIAL LIFE | Gather27 the people together, men28, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may29 hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law: |
De 31:13 HOME Jordan | 30And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it. |
De 31:14 | God gives a charge to Joshua; |
De 31:14 | ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die31: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give32 him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented34 themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation. |
De 31:15 MYSTERIES-REVELATIONS | And the LORD appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle. |
De 31:16 LIFE-DEATH | And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt36 sleep37 with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a38 whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me,39 and break my40 covenant which I have made with them. |
De 31:17 ISRAEL-THE JEWS | Then my anger41 shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake42 them, and I will hide my face43 from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these45 evils come upon us, because our God is not among us? |
De 31:18 FELLOWSHIP-ESTRANGEMENT | 46And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods. |
De 31:19 | and a song to testify against the people. |
De 31:19 | Now therefore write ye this song47 for you, and teach it48 the children of Israel: put it in their49 mouths, that this song may be a witness50 for me against the children of Israel. |
De 31:20 CANAAN, LAND OF PROVOKING GOD | ¶ For when51 I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, that floweth52 with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten53 and filled themselves, and waxen fat54; then55 will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant. |
De 31:21 MIND, CARNAL-SPIRITUAL | And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song56 shall testify against57 them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about58, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware. |
De 31:22 | ¶59Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel. |
De 31:23 LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | And he gave Joshua60 the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring61 the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee. |
De 31:24 | Moses delivers the book of the law to the Levites to keep. |
De 31:24 WRITING | And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words62 of this law in a book, until they were finished, |
De 31:25 | That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark63 of the covenant of the LORD, saying, |
De 31:26 ARK BOOKS, GOD'S TITLES AND NAMES TITLES AND NAMES | Take this book of the law, and put it in the side64 of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness65 against thee. |
De 31:27 SELF-WILL-SUBMISSION | For I know66 thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck67: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been68 rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death? |
De 31:28 | He makes a protestation. |
De 31:28 | Gather unto me69 all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven70 and earth to record against them. |
De 31:29 | For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves,71 and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil72 will befall you in the latter days73; because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands. |
De 31:30 | ¶74And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended. |
