De 24:1 | Of divorce. |
De 24:1 HOME | ¶ When a man hath taken1 a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness2 in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement3, and give it in her hand, and send her4 out of his house. |
De 24:2 | And when she is departed out of his house, she may go5 and be another man's wife. |
De 24:3 | And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife; |
De 24:4 | Her former6 husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt7 not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. |
De 24:5 | A new married man goes not to war. |
De 24:5 BRIDEGROOM HOME HOME WAR-PEACE | ¶ When a man8 hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither9 shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken. |
De 24:6 | Of pledges. |
De 24:6 BUSINESS LIFE BUSINESS LIFE MILLSTONES | No man shall take10 the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man's life11 to pledge. |
De 24:7 | Of man-stealers. |
De 24:7 EVIL PUT AWAY KIDNAPPING | If a man be found12 stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that13 thief shall die; and thou shalt14 put evil away from among you. |
De 24:8 | Of leprosy. |
De 24:8 HEALTH-DISEASE | 15Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do. |
De 24:9 MIRIAM Egypt | Remember16 what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam17 by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt. |
De 24:10 | Of pledges. |
De 24:10 | ¶ When18 thou dost lend thy brother any thing19, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge. |
De 24:11 | Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee. |
De 24:12 POVERTY-RICHES | 20And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: |
De 24:13 | In any case thou shalt deliver21 him the pledge again when the sun22 goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment23, and bless thee: and it shall be24 righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God. |
De 24:14 | The hire is to be given. |
De 24:14 KINDNESS-CRUELTY | ¶25Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates: |
De 24:15 BUSINESS LIFE BUSINESS LIFE | At his26 day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it:27 lest he28 cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. |
De 24:16 | Of justice. |
De 24:16 STEWARDSHIP-OWNERSHIP | 29The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. |
De 24:17 JUSTICE-INJUSTICE WIDOW AND FATHERLESS | Thou shalt not pervert30 the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take31 a widow's raiment to pledge: |
De 24:18 Egypt | 32But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing. |
De 24:19 | Of charity. |
De 24:19 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE SHEAVES | When thou33 cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be34 for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless35 thee in all the work of thine hands. |
De 24:20 | ¶ When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again36: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. |
De 24:21 AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE | When thou gatherest37 the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward38: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. |
De 24:22 Egypt | 39And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing. |
