Am 7:1
The judgments of the grasshoppers,
Am 7:1
AGRICULTURE-HORTICULTURE

Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed1 unto me; and, behold, he2 formed grasshoppers3 in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings4.

Am 7:2

And it came to pass, that when5 they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord6 GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise7? for8 he is small.

Am 7:3

9The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.

Am 7:4
and of the fire are diverted by the prayer of Amos.
Am 7:4

Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed10 unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called11 to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

Am 7:5

Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease12, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for13 he is small.

Am 7:6

14The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.

Am 7:7
By the wall of a plumbline is signified the rejection of Israel.
Am 7:7
PLUMMET

Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall15 made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

Am 7:8
LINE OF JUDGMENT, THE DIVINE

And the LORD said unto me, Amos16, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline17. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set18 a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not19 again pass by them any more:

Am 7:9
DESOLATION

And the high20 places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will22 rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

Am 7:10
Amaziah complains of Amos.

JEROBOAM
SILENCE-SPEECH
Bethel 1

Then Amaziah the priest23 of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath24 conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not25 able to bear all his words.

Am 7:11
ISRAEL-THE JEWS

For thus26 Amos saith, Jeroboam27 shall die by the sword, and Israel28 shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

Am 7:12

Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou29 seer, go30, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat31 bread, and prophesy there:

Am 7:13
HELPS-HINDRANCES
Bethel 1

But prophesy32 not again any more at Bethel: for33 it is the king's chapel34, and it is the king's court.

Am 7:14
Amos shews his calling;
Am 7:14
AMOS
TREES

Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither35 was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman36, and a gatherer37 of sycomore fruit:

Am 7:15

And the LORD took39 me as I followed40 the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Am 7:16
and Amaziah's judgment.
Am 7:16

Now therefore hear41 thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy42 not against Israel, and drop43 not thy word against the house of Isaac.

Am 7:17

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife44 shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land45 shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die46 in a polluted land: and Israel47 shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
