2Ch 20:1 JEHOSHAPHAT JEHOSHAPHAT | ¶ It came to pass after this also,1 that the children of Moab2, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against3 Jehoshaphat to battle. |
2Ch 20:2 EN-GEDI RIGHTEOUS-WICKED Edom Engedi Hazazon-tamar | Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea4 on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar5, which is Engedi6. |
2Ch 20:3 PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE | And Jehoshaphat feared7, and set himself8 to seek the LORD, and proclaimed9 a fast throughout all Judah. |
2Ch 20:4 | And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD10: even out of all the cities11 of Judah they came to seek the LORD. |

2Ch 20:5 Jerusalem | And Jehoshaphat12 stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, |
2Ch 20:6 SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD | And said, O LORD13 God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven14? and rulest not15 thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand16 is there not power and might, so that none is able17 to withstand thee? |
2Ch 20:7 ABRAHAM OR ABRAM FRIENDSHIP-FRIENDLESSNESS | Art not thou our God18, who19 didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest20 it to the seed of Abraham thy friend21 for ever? |
2Ch 20:8 | And they dwelt therein, and have built thee22 a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying, |
2Ch 20:9 | If, when evil23 cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence24, (for thy name25 is in this house26,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help. |
2Ch 20:10 Egypt Mount Seir 1 Moab Ammon | ¶ And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou27 wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not; |
2Ch 20:11 | Behold, I say, how they reward us,28 to come to cast us29 out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit. |
2Ch 20:12 FAITH-UNBELIEF WEAKNESS-POWER | O our God, wilt30 thou not judge them? for we have31 no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither32 know we what to do: but our eyes33 are upon thee. |
2Ch 20:13 HOME | And all Judah34 stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. |

2Ch 20:14 INSPIRATION, DIVINE | ¶ Then upon35 Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit36 of the LORD in the midst of the congregation; |
2Ch 20:15 EXHORTATIONS, SPECIAL Jerusalem | And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid37 nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle38 is not yours, but God's. |
2Ch 20:16 Jeruel Ziz | To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff39 of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook40, before the wilderness of Jeruel41. |
2Ch 20:17 Jerusalem | Ye shall not need42 to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still,43 and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD44 will be with you. |
2Ch 20:18 PRAYER Jerusalem | And Jehoshaphat bowed his head45 with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before46 the LORD, worshipping the LORD. |
2Ch 20:19 | And the Levites47, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites48, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud49 voice on high. |

2Ch 20:20 BATTLE OF LIFE EARLY RISING FAITH-UNBELIEF HOME LEADERS, RELIGIOUS PROSPERITY-ADVERSITY SECURITY-INSECURITY Tekoa Jerusalem | ¶ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa50: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD52 your God, so shall ye be established; believe his53 prophets, so shall ye prosper. |
2Ch 20:21 MUSIC | And when he had consulted54 with the people, he appointed55 singers unto the LORD, and that should praise56 the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD57; for his mercy endureth for ever. |

2Ch 20:22 AMBUSH DELIVERANCE GRATITUDE-INGRATITUDE MUSIC Mount Seir 1 Moab Ammon | And when they58 began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten59. |
2Ch 20:23 AMMONITES PANICS Mount Seir 1 Seir Moab Ammon | For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir60, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another61. |
2Ch 20:24 | And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead62 bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped63. |
2Ch 20:25 WAR-PEACE | And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found64 among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies65, and precious jewels66, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much67. |
2Ch 20:26 | The people, having blessed God at Berachah, return in triumph. |
2Ch 20:26 VALLEYS Valley of Beracah | And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah68; for there they blessed69 the LORD: therefore the name70 of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day71. |
2Ch 20:27 ISRAEL-THE JEWS Jerusalem Jerusalem | Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront72 of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD73 had made them to rejoice over their enemies. |
2Ch 20:28 MUSIC Jerusalem | And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries74 and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD. |
2Ch 20:29 BATTLE OF LIFE | And the fear75 of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard76 that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel. |
2Ch 20:30 | ¶ So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God77 gave him rest round about. |
2Ch 20:31 | Jehoshaphat's reign. |
2Ch 20:31 Jerusalem | ¶ And Jehoshaphat78 reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. |
2Ch 20:32 HOME | And he walked79 in the way80 of Asa his father, and departed not81 from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD. |
2Ch 20:33 EARNESTNESS-INDIFFERENCE | Howbeit the high places82 were not taken away: for as yet the people had not83 prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers. |
2Ch 20:34 JEHU | Now the rest84 of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book85 of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned86 in the book of the kings of Israel. |
2Ch 20:35 | His convoy of ships, according to the prophecy of Eliezer, unhappily perish. |
2Ch 20:35 AHAZIAH ALLIANCES, EVIL | And after this did Jehoshaphat87 king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very88 wickedly: |
2Ch 20:36 EZION-GABER SHIPS TARSHISH OR THARSHISH Ezion-geber Tarshish | And he joined89 himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish90: and they made the ships in Eziongeber92. |
2Ch 20:37 MARESHAH PROPHECY Mareshah Tarshish | Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because93 thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD94 hath broken thy works. And the ships95 were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish96. |
