1Ki 17:1 AHAB ELIJAH ELIJAH HOME JUDGMENTS, GOD'S METEOROLOGY MIRACLES Gilead Tishbe | ¶ And Elijah1 the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom3 I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain4 these years, but according to my word. |
1Ki 17:2 | 5And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, |
1Ki 17:3 BROOKS GUIDANCE Cherith Jordan | Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself6 by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. |
1Ki 17:4 BIRDS GUIDANCE | And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded7 the ravens to feed thee there. |
1Ki 17:5 Cherith Jordan | So he went and did according8 unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. |
1Ki 17:6 BREAD ELIJAH PROVIDENCE DIVINE | And the ravens9 brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook. |
1Ki 17:7 | And it came to pass after a while10, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. |
1Ki 17:8 | He is sent to the widow of Zarephath. |
1Ki 17:8 | ¶ And the word11 of the LORD came unto him, saying, |
1Ki 17:9 GUIDANCE TESTS, SPIRITUAL WOMEN ZAREPHATH OR SAREPTA Zarephath Sidon | Arise, get thee to Zarephath12, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman14 there to sustain thee. |
1Ki 17:10 HOME WATER Zarephath | ¶ So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me,15 I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. |
1Ki 17:11 | And as she was going16 to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel17 of bread in thine hand. |
1Ki 17:12 ABUNDANCE-WANT BARREL CAKES CRUSES LIMITATIONS, HUMAN OIL POVERTY-RICHES WEAKNESS-POWER | And she said, As the LORD18 thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful19 of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it,20 and die. |

1Ki 17:16 PROVIDENCE DIVINE | And the barrel29 of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according30 to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah31. |

1Ki 17:17 | ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman32, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was33 no breath left in him. |
1Ki 17:18 LEADERS, RELIGIOUS | And she said unto Elijah, What have I34 to do with thee, O thou man35 of God? art thou come36 unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? |
1Ki 17:19 ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION PRAYER | And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft37, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. |
1Ki 17:20 EARNESTNESS-INDIFFERENCE ELIJAH PRAYER | ¶ And he cried38 unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also39 brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? |
1Ki 17:21 ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION | And he stretched himself40 upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God41, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. |
1Ki 17:22 ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION MIRACLES MORTALITY-IMMORTALITY | And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him42 again, and he revived. |
1Ki 17:23 ELIJAH | And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth43. |
1Ki 17:24 | The woman believes him. |
1Ki 17:24 | And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this44 I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word45 of the LORD in thy mouth is truth. |
