Y2K and Windows Help

I know it may be a little late, but I want to hopefully save some
people some aggravation, and money. I ran one of the Y2K checks below,
and my RTC (real time clock)failed, which caused me to panic.
My first inclination was to buy the "fix-it: software offered for sale
by the compant offering the "free" Y2K check.
I'm glad I waited to call the company I bought my puter from. They told
me a simple check to do myself, and if it then failed I could bring it
in. They have a simple, cheap, fix-it. Below I have the steps for
do-it-yourself Y2K RTC compliance testing.
1) In the bottom right corner is your clock; double click on it
2) Change the time to December 31st, 11:57pm
3) Shut your computer down
4) Wait until you know without a doubt it has rolled over to the new
date
5) Turn the puter back on, and see if it comes up ok
6) If it does, great. If it is only a couple of years old, most will
be ok. If not, then you'll need to see a local computer store for
options.
Again, if it's relatively new, they tell me the fix-it, is very simple.
