Water baptism is no more "works" for salvation then is repentance,
it is simply obedience to God's plan, even those who reject the
idea of baptism as necessary for salvation usually will agree that
repentance is necessary for salvation, (which it is), but usuing their
logic, repentance would be "works", after all repentance is more than
simply being sorry for sins, it also requires *action* on our part -
action to stop doing what is wrong and action to start doing what is
right, now we realize that repentance does not *earn* our salvation,
but it is part of God's plan we must obey to receive the salvation
that HE has already paid for.
