It has been a bit since I POSTED any thing but I would like a little imput on
a studye that the Spirit of the Lord put together and allowed me to be a
vessel for putting it down in type. The Spirit was overwhelmingly strong and
when I finally made it to the computor the words began to flow and flow like
a pouring rain. When i finished there was only minor clean up ...spell check
, punciation...etc but absolutly nothing to be rearranged or added or
subtracted. It was perfect but for my human failings in typing. Complete.
I knew who I was writing it for but I feel free to let others now read it as
it is a small study on Baptism for people who already have the experience of
the Holy Ghost. I would like to know your responses. please and if you feel
that you could use the study. It is to be printed in tract study format.
I'm going to try to attach this but I'm not very good at doing that....so
here goes
Sis. Kathy
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Believest Thou me?
3 Points
(1) Believe on Him
(2) Believe on His name
(3) Believe and be baptized
--------------------------------------------------
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son
that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish.
John 7:38 He that believeth on me as the Scripture hath said, out of his
belly shall flow rivers of living water
:39 But this spake He of the spirit which they that believe on Him
should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, because
Jesus was not yet glorified.
NOTE: should receive. John wrote this statement not as a suggestion,.......
......but as a foregone conclusion............... that if a person is to be
a true believer..... then,.... that person would be filled with Holy Spirit.
And the evidence of that spirit is the speaking in a unknown tongue as that
same Spirit gives the utterance
Jesus also made the same blunt kind of statement about the way of believing.
We can read about it in John 3: 17&18
(:17) For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that
the world through him might be saved.
(:18) He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not
is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the
only begotten Son of God.
____________
(1) So, you have believing on him so as not to perish,
(2) You have believing on him in order for the Holy Spirit to flow out of
your life (belly),
(3) You have believing on his name to not be condemned
-------------
This last statement is a very strong statement. For in order not to perish
or be condemned we MUST believe on Him and his Name.
Jesus also gave another imperative when he spoke with his (then 11) disciples.
This is in Mark 16:15&16
(:15) and he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the
gospel to every creature.
(:16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned.
So, believing in His name will free us from condemnation but there is an
addendum to that....believing and being baptized. Verses 17 & 18 tell us
the evidence of believing on His name and being baptized.
(:17) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall
they cast out devils; they shall take up serpents; and if they
drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay
hands on the sick and they shall recover.
________________
To believe, you must
(1) Believe on Him
(2) Believe on His Name
(3) Believe and be baptized
When this happens signs shall follow:
The sign that rivers of living waters are flowing out of you, (the Holy
Spirit) are ...
... by speaking in a new tongue
... by casting out devils in His name
... by laying hands on the sick and they recovering
... by the protection we have in that if we drink any deadly thing it
shall not hurt us or if we should happen to take up a serpent.
Now all of this sounds fairly powerful and it is.... because when we read of
this same event of Jesus speaking to the 11, as LUKE writes it,.... we read
that Jesus appeared,... the disciples were afraid.... (now this was after his
death and burial and they had not truly believed the reports of His
resurrection)... He calms them, eats with them, then begins to explain the
events that had occurred and the events role in the full filling of old
testament prophecy.
After all that in verse :47 He tells them that repentance and remission of
sins should be preached in His name among ALL nations, beginning AT Jerusalem.
In :48 He told them they were witness of all these events
:49 and that he would send the promise of his Father upon them, But,....
they had to tarry IN the city of Jerusalem until..... they be indued
with power from on high.
REMEMBER now: they were to receive their power there in Jerusalem and they
were to START the preaching of remission of sins and repentance AT Jerusalem.
After Jesus ascension, recorded in the same chpt. of LUKE and verse :51,
these believers worshiped and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
LUKE then writes in the ACTS of the Apostles chpt 2, about the Holy Ghost
filling them and they speaking in another tongue as this same Spirit gave
them the utterance. ONE of the signs of a believer.
Now, we can see they must have believed on Him,... 1 of the 3 requirements.
Because the rivers of living water had begun to flow in these believers.
But what about the believing on His name and the believing and being
baptized....the other two strong requirements? Also what about the preaching
of repentance and baptizing for remission of sins beginning AT Jerusalem?
Let us go to Luke's writing in the same chpt, where Peter did the first
sermon. Let's see if he would expound the way to believe. In CHPT 2:21 he
quotes the old testament prophecy "And it shall come to pass that whosoever
shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Here's Peter quoting scripture saying you have to "call on the name" to be
saved!
Therefore is calling the ACTION of believing on His name? If so, how do you
call on his name for salvation?
A similar question was raised by the Jews that Peter was preaching to, when
they finally believed that Jesus was the Christ, their Messiah and Lord. #1
they believed on HIM.
Then they had a greater dilemma as they were remembering some fatal words
"His blood be on us, and on our children"
Being pricked in their hearts, these Jewish sinners said to Peter and the
other eleven who were there with him "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
Acts 2:36
:38 then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized everyone of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the
gift of the Holy Ghost.
:39 To this promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are
afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Well, Peter preached his first sermon of repentance and baptizing for the
remission of sins AT Jerusalem just like Jesus told them to do.
The results?
:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day
there were added unto them about 3 thousand souls.
There's another believe.... Believe and be baptized.
So, where was believing on His name?
... Where was the calling on his name for salvation at?
We find these answers in the message that Peter preached.
The believing and calling on His name was done when they were baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
An interesting thing though, is that Jesus didn't come in his own name.
John 5:43 quotes Jesus as saying: "I am come in my Fathers~R name, and ye
received me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive."
He was Lord and Christ, But, the name was his Father's-Jesus- Emmanuel--being
interpreted "God with us".
In John 14:26 Jesus also spoke of His father sending the Comforter, (the Holy
Spirit) in His name What was his name? The same as his father, Jesus.
It is no wonder then that MATTHEW wrote in his writings, chpt 28, of when
Jesus appeared, verse
:18 Jesus came and spoke unto them saying "ALL power is given unto me in
heaven and in earth.
:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptizing them in the name....
.................of the father, and of the son and of the Holy Ghost
:20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
Then he left them with the beautiful promise of never leaving them.
With ALL of this, it is no wonder that PAUL wrote in COL 3 ...
:17 And whatsoever you do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord
Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
While LUKE wrote in ACTS 4 ...
:12 Neither is there salvation in any other name: for there is none given
among men, whereby we must be saved.
And John said :
20:31 But these are written, that ye believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
