Regarding the water and the blood, remember Jesus' first miracle?  He
turned the water into wine.  Remember at the last supper?  He said the 
wine was his blood.  By transitivity, I suggest to you that this was
to show that the water was equivalent to his blood.  Therefore, water
baptism is being washed in his blood.
