I've heard this too and I agree with you Bro Harrell. It's merely a
point of grammar -- the plural of fruit is, well, "fruit," not
"fruits."
If I have a fruit salad I did not eat a single strawberry, I ate a bowl
of stuff with melons and bananas and apples and strawberries, and kiwi
fruit all topped off with some whipped cream.
I don't have a "fruits bowl," but my fruit bowl at home can hold
several bananas and apples and oranges. Fruit-of-the-loom
undergarments have a picture on the tag showing a variety of fruit (not
"fruits").
Anyone who says "fruits of the Spirit" is obviously a fruitcake and
should be required to read the Oxford Dictionary of the English
language :-). Twice. Backwards in a darkened room with only a candle
for illumination.
