Sorry this took so long!
Nestorianism ... What are the tennets of this
Philosophy?<<<
> Basically Nestorianism is the belief that Jesus contained
the Spirit like a sail contains the wind. :)
I like this.
>Seriously though, Nestorians believe that divinity and
humanity in Christ were united only in purpose and were not
united in
substance as one singular being (hypostatical union).
I believe there is only One "being" in Jesus Christ: The
Spirit/Father. This being manifested Himself, God/Spirit
in the flesh which was not God/Spirit. The "essence" of
the Spirit could not change then, now or ever. What you
term "humanity" or the "experiences" or "concieousness"
that was contained in the flesh ALREADY existed in the
Spirit FROM eternity past and all that changed was how He
made Himself known. Every thought that was manifest in the
flesh was already present in the Spirit BEFORE the flesh
was created. God didn't have to learn "humanity" but
created the man Jesus so that He could manifest Himself to
humanity. John 17:5 speaks of the "praise" or honor that
the Father had for the Son, who only existed in the "Logos"
or "Plan" of the Father at that "time" if the term time
applies. This SCREAMS that what ever Jesus was, thoughts,
sorrows, pain, joy, emotions and everything, ALREADY was
FULLY contained in the Father BEFORE the existance of the
Son.
Now as to what you term "humanity" consider that Jesus was
given the Spirit without measure at his birth: Matthew 2:4,
"And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes
of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ
should be born." and the most conclusive: Luke 2:11, "For
unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord."
Jesus was "born" Christ and never "became" Christ or
Anointed with the Spirit of God.
What was it that "increased." The "amount" of the
manifestation
or "showing forth" of God in the flesh. This will continue
until the "revelation" of Christ when as Paul says "we will
see Him as
He really is."
No, there is a BIG difference in what I read to be in the
Bible and this philosophy.
As to "persons" there was only one in Jesus Christ: The
Father:
John 8, "26 I have many things to say and to judge of you:
but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those
things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not
that he spake to them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus
unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then
shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of
myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these
things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath
not left me alone; for I do always those things that please
him."
Here when Jesus said that He said NOTHING of Himself but
ONLY what the Father taught Him, the Jews knew He was
saying that He was the Father. The only "personality"
therefore "person" that exhibited itself in Jesus Christ
was the Father. This
exhibition was limited that the plan could proceed. Jesus
said "forgive them they know not what they do": killing the
"flesh" of the Father.
This is the doctrine of Oneness.
