                    Position or Commission

In this world that we live in, everyone is concerned about what their
position in life is. How easy it is to get wrapped up in positions.
God never intended for his church to have positions. He knew how
devastating positions could be. That's the reason this country is in
such a mess. Once a politician is elected then he spends all his time
trying to keep his position instead of doing the job he was
elected to do.

God's way has always been commission. There is a big difference in
position and commission. Paul was a man who knew what commission was
all about. Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and
commission from the chief priests, (ACT 26:12) (KJV) Paul didn't have
a position, but a commission upon his life. If Paul had went to Damascus
with authority and position from the chief priests, then nothing would
have been accomplished. Paul would have been to busy maintaining his
position, to kill any christians.

When God saved Paul on the road to Damascus, he didn't take away his
commission and give him a position in the church. Rather, he transferred
that commission. God didn't need Paul to fill any positions. And he sat
down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to
be first, {the same} shall be last of all, and servant of all.
(MAR 9:35) (KJV) People that try to fill positions try to be first,
number one. God had a job for Paul to do. He didn't need anyone to be
over that job, to fill a position, but, someone to do that job.

I once knew a church that did away with all positions in the church.
At one Sunday Night service the pastor got up and asked all the people
that had positions to step forward and resign them. You can imagine
the looks on peoples faces as he did that. If you didn't want to
volunteer to give up your position then you were removed from your
position.

After every position in the church was removed, then the people were
commissioned to fill the jobs that needed to be done. It was then
that the people began to understand the difference between position
and commission. Finally, that the church begin to grow.

No longer was the Sunday School Superintendent a position, but he now
had a job to do. No longer was the Teachers in a position, but now
they had jobs to do. No longer were the Youth Leader, Choir Leader,
Song Leader, or Musician's and such, positions to be held. They had
now been commissioned to do their jobs, and it was time to get their
hands dirty. No longer could they say, "I just can't get anyone to
do anything". If the job didn't get done, it was their fault. Paul
would have preached the gospel to the world all by his self, if no
one would have helped him.

In today's "Position" minded world, it is so easy to get wrapped up
in our positions. Just to be over our little departments. But, God
never intended for his church to set up with positions, in-fact,
position is not even found in the Bible. He has commissioned us
to do his work. We are not over his work, but to do his work. How
about you, are you positioned or commissioned?
