This is one of the ten commandments. John 14:15 states,
"If ye love me[Jesus], keep my commandments."
> Would be better translated as "Thou shalt not Murder".
Rather than "Thou shall not Kill". God is concerned about
murder, the unjust removal of life. Otherwise the Bible
would contradict itself in the Mosaic Laws that require the
Nation of Israel to stone people.
Well, kinda. The reason one is sanctioned in the Old AND
New Testament for "murder" or the "willful" killing of a
human is that you are "trespassing" on God's territory. He
gave the life and it is up to Him how it is "disposed."
As far as the situation Dave mentioned there are several
things that apply. First, vengance is God's and He can
therefore "give"
it to whom ever He pleases. God gave this right of
vengance to various people in the OT for various reasons.
The question NOW is who has God given the right to vengance
as far as the Christian is concerned? The answer is
obviously Jesus.
How are we as the servants of Jesus supposed to administer
vengance? NOT AT ALL! The OT is repleat with Scripture
that
the servant has no right to retribution but will be "freed"
if he is abused and also that if a man abuses another man's
servant it is
the "master" that is due the "payment" or that will exact
the "pound of flesh."
To protect someone is just "pre-emptive" revenge. If you
are to
forgive a man for already killing you wife or child why do
you have the right to murder him to "prevent" this?
When you kill the man who has "threatened" you, you condemn
him to death merely upon YOUR FEAR of what YOU THINK
is GOING to happen.
When you pray for those that "despitefully" use you, you
are saying "God is my master and you have commited an
offense against Him. He is the one you have to "deal" with
since I owe Him ALL and He will recompense me as well as
you. If the master says that the account is "settled.""
The good servant must agree.
God has shown me that it is not a matter of if I will turn
the other cheek admitting that God is the Master but will I
let Satan bind me with the fear that someone will smack me
and I will fail. In this manner the Devil has won and no
one touched me.
I aint gonna sweat it. If I hit back, I have sinned
(trespassed). If I willfully kill for ANY reason I have
sinned (trespassed). If I live in fear, Satan is my
master.
